GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the total operation of the Transportation Department and fleet. Recommends the policies, procedures, and regulations affecting the operation of a safe and efficient Transportation Department.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides for the development and implementation of an efficient and adequate bus routing and student transportation system.
  • Provides for the development and implementation of a worthwhile safety program.
    Provides the Assistant Superintendent with reports and information that will enable him/her to critically review operations of the transportation program and give constructive advice and guidance regarding improvement possibilities.
    - Advises the Assistant Superintendent on transportation matters and monitors annual budget for the Transportation Department.
    - Directs the selection, training, and evaluation of performance of all bus drivers and substitute bus drivers and related transportation staff.
    Evaluates and make recommendations relative to bus and non-bus areas.
    Develops and maintains good relations with the general public, school employees, and parents.
    Develops information and recommendations concerning new or expanding programs.
    Develops and implements new policies and programs to improve the efficiency of the transportation operation.
    Assists in the equitable solution of complaints, concerns, and problems in the area of responsibility.
    Coordinates with the State Department of Education the exchange of data relative to the transportation operation.
    Ensures the compliance of all school personnel with rules and regulations as outlined by Board Policy and that are related to transportation.
    Other duties as may be required to maintain a successful transportation program.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree related to Business Administration/Management/Technology (Master's Degree preferred) or a related field, to manage a large student transportation program. Six years of progressive professional experience in student transportation, computerized routing and management systems; including methods and procedures for establishing and maintaining an effective transportation program in a management capacity or an equivalent combination of acceptable experience. Excellent communication, analytical, and customer service skills a must. Ability to direct the action of others, maintain effective working relationships with bus drivers, parents, school officials, and the general public. Ability to plan, organize and efficiently administer a large program. Extensive knowledge of the Parish in terms of roads, streets, subdivisions, etc. Additional criteria as the Board may require.
