Title: School Social Worker

Position Summary:
Assists the schools in identifying students in need of School Social Worker services

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Serves as the agency designated reporter of child abuse/neglect for the District; Assesses child abuse/neglect allegations by individuals that include, but are not limited to, parents, guardians, relatives, family friends, and District employees
  
  Conducts required training for mandated reporters of suspected child abuse and neglect
  
  Provides casework assessment and services to students and their families
  
  Works with schools to implement attendance programs and support compliance of the compulsory attendance law; Prepares and files educational neglect and truancy petitions with Fulton County Juvenile Court once a student has accumulated excessive unexcused absences; Attends all court hearings on petitions filed
  
  Conducts home visits to assess the social environment, emotional, physical, and safety needs of a student and to verify residency as requested by schools
  
  Assists schools in determining guardianship, placement and/or residence of students
  
  Assists parents and students with referrals to community agencies and resources
  
  Maintains case records and related statistical data, demonstrating knowledge of various student information and software programs
  
  Submits accurate monthly reports electronically on School Social Work Services provided at each assigned school
  
  Solicits the aid of community agencies and resources to provide tangible needs to the individual student and his/her family
  
  Works with parents and children in a confidential and caring manner and assists the family, school, and community in any way required to bridge gaps between family and school
  
  Complies with the Code of Ethics for Educators adopted by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission and the Code of Ethics for Social Workers adopted by the National Association of Social Workers, both of which are required by the Fulton County School System
  
  Participates in District-level and school-based professional learning activities for continued professional growth
  
  Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
  

Education and Experience
Education:

• Master's Degree in Social Work required

Experience:

• Minimum 2 years of experience in the school social work field preferred

Certification/Licensure:

• Must hold or be eligible for certification as a School Social Worker

Minimum Qualifications:

• Knowledge of norms of behavior at stages in a child's growth and development as affected by chronological age
  
  Knowledge of laws which affect children such as child labor, guardianship, custody, and compulsory school attendance
  
  Must be willing to take legal action if necessary to help a student and his/her family
  
  Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with community agencies
  
  Must be able to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects, and responsibilities
  
  Ability to apply critical thinking skills in rendering solutions to various issues
  
  Must be able to collaborate effectively with District personnel, the general public, and work with diverse groups of people
  
  Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  

Salary Information
Salary Range for 2019-2020

• $55,367 - $64,804

Step placement credit may be granted for up to a maximum of 8 years (Step 9) of prior verifiable experience. Salary placement with Fulton County Schools is non-negotiable. Actual salary placement will be based on Fulton County Board of Education experience calculations from the Non-Teaching Salary Schedule B-195, Executive Scale, Step 1 - Step 9
