    This is a non-contracted position under Agreement for Services only with no benefits.

    APS families come from more than 130 countries and speak over 160 languages. The district is looking for multilingual interpreters, especially for the following languages: Amharic, Nepali, Somali, Burmese, Vietnamese, Arabic, Karen, French, Oromo, Swahili, Russian, Chuukese, Chinese, Twi/Cwi, Cambodian (Khmer), Kinyarwanda, Korean, Rohingya, Korean and Marshallese.

    Salary:
    $35.00 per hour

    Summary:
    Provide interpretation services in English and other languages spoken by families in the district. Be adaptable to schedule changes and on-call needs of the district, schools and personnel.

    Job Duties:
    • Interpret for parents and school personnel at school meetings and events upon request and as available
    • Function as a communication link between non-English speaking and limited-English speaking families and APS school/district personnel
    • Interpret faithfully and always conveying the thought, intent, and spirit of the speaker and/or student while maintaining confidentiality, an impartial attitude, and professional demeanor at all times
    • Attend interpreter trainings provided by the district
    • Employ good customer service and clear enunciation, pronunciation, pleasant and professional voice as well as polite forms of expression
    • Render correct concepts and meanings according to the conventions of established interpretation protocol
    • Provide clear and accurate renditions with no additions or omissions
    • Understand protocol and terminology in the education industry
    • Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment

    Job Qualifications:
    1. Bilingual in English and one of the languages spoken by families in the district
    2. Familiarity with K-12 educational environments and educational interpreting preferred
    3. High school diploma or equivalent
    4. Excellent listening, retention and note-taking skills to maintain a high level of accuracy
    5. Meet at least one of the following alternate qualifiers:
      • Current interpreter identification from an interpretation agency, government or health organization
      • Certificate of an accredited interpreting training such as: Bridging the Gap medical certificate, Court Interpreter Certification, Community Interpreter Certificate, CCA Translation and Interpretation (TRI) Certificate or Degree in specific language from an accredited university
      • Provide two reference letters from organizations where interpreter has provided services (must be on letterhead)
      • Certification as an interpreter or willingness to pay for and complete an interpreter assessment through the vendor utilized by the district (unless already completed).

    Other Information:
    Hourly position based on need. Applicants are not guaranteed a minimum number of hours worked per week or school year.
