Substitutes instructs and provide support to students during the absence of a regular employee. Substitutes are expected to maintain a professional attitude toward their work and support the mission and goals of the Pittsburgh Public Schools.

If you are selected as a candidate, you will be contacted by the Office of Human Resources to participate in an orientation session.

We are looking for day-to-day substitutes who are available to instruct and provide support in our schools any day of the week. We offer an array of substitute positions:
  • Day-to-Day Cosmetology Substitute Teacher
  • Day-to-Day Refrigeration, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (RHVAC) Substitute Teacher
  • Day-to-Day Automotive Technology Substitute Teacher
  • Day-to-Day Carpentry Substitute Teacher
  • Day-to-Day Culinary Arts Substitute Teacher
  • Day-to-Day Health Related Technolgy Substitute Teacher
  • Day-to-Day Machine Operations Substitute Teacher


Salary:
Day-To-Day Substitute CTE Teacher:
$120 a day, then $136 a day for substitutes who have worked at least forty(40) days during each of the preceding (2) consecutive semesters. This rate, once achieved, will be retained for the duration of employment as an active substitute.

Qualifications:
Cosmetology Substitute Teacher:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent & must Hold current Pennsylvania State Board Cosmetology Teachers License.

Refrigeration, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (RHVAC) Substitute Teacher:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent & must have a minimum of 3 - 5 years of field experience in HVAC, with knowledge of AC/DC circuits, single and three-phase power, and electric belt motor (proper ICE certification).

Automotive Technology Substitute Teacher:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent & must have 2 years of recent wage earning experience in the field of automotive technology within the past 10 years; Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification in A4 (Suspension & Steering) A5 (Brakes) A6 (Electrical/Electronic Systems) an A8 (Engine Performance).

Carpentry Substitute Teacher:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent & must have 2 years of recent wage earning experience in the field of carpentry within the past 10 years.

Culinary Arts Substitute Teacher:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent & must have 2 years of recent wage earning experience in the field of commercial or institutional foods within the past 10 years.

Health Related Technolgy Substitute Teacher:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent & must hold a current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Nurse.
- Must have 5 years of recent (within last seven (7) years) trade based or equivalent full-time employment directly related to health careers.

Machine Operations Substitute Teacher:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent & must have 5 years of recent (within last seven (7) years) trade based or equivalent full-time employment directly related to Machine Operations.
- Experience with CNC/ advanced machining and NIMS certifications is preferred.

Residency Requirements: No Residency Requirement

Essential Job Functions:
- Follows the lesson plan(s) or assignment left and ensures students complete all
assigned tasks

- Maintains a safe environment

- Uses materials provided by the teacher or other school personnel.

- Notifies school administration of any unusual incidents which have occurred during the school day.

- Maintains accurate assessment of student attendance and grades.

- Leaves information concerning the day's activities for the teacher

- Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff

- Ability to manage student behavior in a positive manner

- Additional duties or responsibilities as assigned may be required
