PURPOSE: To provide leadership which supports the District's strategic plan through increasing public awareness of issues, trends and resources with regard to the District as well as raise public and employee awareness of events, programs, services and goals of the District. Provide leadership and support to the design, implementation and overall coordination of all of the district's strategic plan, including ensuring that all programs are in alignment with long-range goals. The Director advises and recommends appropriate communications strategies to the Superintendent and other administrators.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Bachelor's degree and practical experiences in a school system setting including but not limited to building or district administrationDemonstrated ability to lead complex operational and strategic projectsStrong management, organizational and leadership skillsPublic Relations/Communications experience in a public school system strongly desiredExperience with web design, publication, and communicationExtensive knowledge of social media and emerging communication platformsExperience with communications emergency management protocolExcellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills and proficiency with current technology;Ability to organize, prioritize, work under time constraints and to be flexible in an environment of multiple tasks and changing priorities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Oversee the district's strategic and long-range goal planning in collaboration with members of the administrative team;Provide leadership for key district initiatives;Work to align and implement strategic goals throughout the organization while identifying opportunities for synergy within all departments;Design and deliver presentations and other communications that clearly and compellingly summarize project findings;Manage and organize the communication efforts of the District by coordinating the internal, parent and community communications of the District and Board;Support communication initiatives by generating publicity and general awareness efforts, raising the profile of the school district through a wide range of media, including local publications, websites, e-newsletters and social media posts. ?Maintain effective communication related to the Strategic Plan;Identify, in consultation with the Superintendent, projects that require ongoing oversight, presenting written updates on these projects to the superintendent for review;Serve as liaison between the District and the news media to promote the District and its programs and services, clarify issues and provide story ideas;Serve as the District spokesperson or prepare the appropriate staff member(s) to serve that function;Serve as the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Officer for the District;Coordinate crisis management and emergency communications;Oversee all content on the District's web \\site and social media accounts by writing and editing its posts.Provide communication support to the Superintendent, administration, Board and parent groups;Manage, coordinate and either lead or support public engagement efforts;Provide information and support for public events such as community forums and District ceremonies;Photograph/video record or secure same of events in the school district that are suitable content for district communications;Coordinate translations & interpretations for the District's Hispanic community through oversight of the District's interpreter/translator;Seek input about the District and schools from the community through surveys, focus groups, community forums, and other methods;Attend all Board of Education meetings, make presentations as assigned and provide a recap to the staff;Establishes partnerships \\with the other public entities that serve the District's community (village, park district, police, fire, library, high school, etc.) and coordinates communication efforts with those partners;Develop and maintain the communications department's budget;Assess the effectiveness and efficiency of communication efforts and make recommendations for improvements;Coordinate informational campaigns for District campaigns;Serve as a liaison between the District and the Glenview Education Foundation and the Parent Teacher Associations;Participate and be an active member of the Administrative Council, Cabinet, and Principal Team;Lead committees and task forces as assigned by the Superintendent;Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

TERM: Full-time, 12 month position (1.0 FTE)

SALARY: Commensurate with experience and regionally competitive. Compensation includes paid family health benefits package.
