    Position Title: Associate Principal - High School

    FLSA: Exempt

    Reports to and evaluated by: High School Principal

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 month ALA – Category I

    Salary: Salary is commensurate with educational attainment and experience as specified by the Association of Lexington Administrators'(ALA) Salary Schedule Category I. Salary and days may be prorated based on date of hire. Benefits as per ALA contract

    Performance Responsibilities:
    • Act as instructional leader in conjunction with the Principal and the Department Heads/Coordinators
    • Organize and lead special assemblies focused on Social and Emotional Learning for students and staff
    • Supervise and evaluate faculty and certified staff
    • Coordinate testing schedules for MCAS
    • Oversee and coordinate grading and Aspen portal procedures with the K-12 Assistant Director of Guidance and the database team
    • Coordinate the Master Calendar for all school events
    • Coordinate school needs/requests with the Facilities Manager
    • Coordinate and approve technology requests in conjunction with the Principal, the Director of Education, Technology and Assessment, and the Department Heads/Coordinators
    • Oversee technology needs for students, faculty and substitutes
    • Co-Chair the LHS Child Protection Team
    • Approve and oversee local, national, and international field trips
    • Maintain/revise Faculty Handbook, Student/Parent Handbook, and the Program of Studies
    • Chaperone school functions
    • Plan/present the course selection process to the middle school students and parents with the K12 Assistant Director of Guidance
    • Coordinate orientation and transition for new faculty
    • Attend Community Based Justice meetings
    • Serves as the co-instructional leader, co-chief administrative and supervisory official of the school.
    • Assumes co-responsibility for the management and operation of the school in accordance with law, administrative code, and School Committee policies and regulations.
    • Co-supervises the effective and efficient implementation of the educational and instructional programs in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and the provisions of the district's collective bargaining agreements.
    • Co-develops annual goals and a strategic plan for the school. Chairs (or co-chairs) and facilitates the work of the School Site Council.
    • Acts as a student advocate to ensure the rights of all students are respected and that all have equal access to the educational opportunities necessary to meet their needs and abilities.
    • In conjunction with the Principal, keeps the Superintendent informed, and advises, assists, and works cooperatively with the Superintendent and all other central office staff in school-related matters.
    • Attends administrative staff meetings and School Committee meetings, upon request of the Superintendent, and other appropriate professional meetings.
    • Prepares and/or supervises the creation of the master teaching schedule and classroom assignments.
    • Co-develops the school calendar and monthly activities in partnership with the Principal and Superintendent.
    • Attends special events held to recognize student achievement and other school-sponsored activities and functions.
    • Participates in the development, evaluation, and revision of curriculum and assumes responsibility for the implementation of approved programs. Provides for coordination and curriculum articulation among and between the grades and in partnership with the other district schools.
    • In conjunction with the Principal, oversees the formulation, planning, and implementation of a staff development program for school personnel and co-directs the program within the school.
    • Collaborates with the Principal and other district administrators in the process of monitoring the progress of all students.
    • Cooperates with all departments in the planning and operation of the child study team and the delivery of programs.
    • Maintains high standards of student safety and conducts and enforces discipline as necessary in accordance with School Committee policy and the students' rights to due process.
    • Supervises staff members in compliance with local, state, and federal law and the policies and procedures of the school district.
    • Observes and evaluates building staff in accordance with law and established procedures.
    • Co-prepares, directs and submits the school's budget requests and monitors the expenditure of funds.
    • Ensures the proper collection, safekeeping, and accounting of school activity funds.
    • Promotes effective communication among all members of the school community. Develops and maintains good relations with the school community, the School Site Council, the Parent Advisory Council (PAC), and other professional, civic, community, and volunteer groups.
    • Serves on district and school committees, participates in district activities, and represents the district/school as warranted, or as directed by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
    • Performs other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent or as required by law, code, regulation/School Committee policy.

    Job Qualifications:

    Must be Certified or certifiable as Principal/Assistant Principal, in 9-12 by Massachusetts DESE, hold a Master's degree in Educational Administration, or be able to demonstrate commensurate knowledge, have high school teaching experience, school administration/instructional leadership experience preferred;

    Leadership ability in school administration, curriculum development, program evaluation, staff development, school improvement, and staff supervision and evaluation;

    Must have demonstrated organizational skills, educational leadership and creative problem solving skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and, the ability to manage multiple, simultaneous tasks, including the ability to prioritize, manage and organize own workload.

    The successful candidate will have demonstrated through the interview process that they have the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, parents and the extended school community.
