Summary & Overview of Summer Academies
Each SEZP school will host a four-week intensive extended-year summer academy, using a vetted SEZP-wide instructional model, for rising sixth, seventh, and eighth grade middle school students as well as intentional student cohorts in grades nine through twelve with below-grade-level reading and math assessment data and critical language learning needs, including those with failing course grades from sending schools/grades.
Schools across the SEZP will maximize the summer academy experience to:
Provide four weeks of foundational intervention in reading, language, and math
Address underlying causes for below-grade-level performance that have/will continue to impact course grades and MCAS outcomes
Create and capitalize on time for fundamental instruction in phonics, fluency, computation, etc., not normally available during school-year schedules
Combat regression trends and improve transitions to grade-level rigor in middle and high school
Reimagine summer school as an "academic ladder" through a nurturing community of learners
