QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated successful experience playing and/or coaching the sport.
Teaching certification or the ability to demonstrate a strong understanding of pedagogy.
Current CPR/First Aid Certification.
National coaching certification preferred (ASEP/NFHS/Other Governing Body).
Understanding of basic fundamentals and movements of the sport.
Knowledge of current trends, tactics, strategies, and skills of the sport.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, coaches, parents, faculty members and administrators.
Experience working with urban students.
Availability to assist with implementation of a year-round training program.
REPORTS TO: Head Coach
SUPERVISES: Not applicable
JOB GOAL: To assist with the organization, administration, facilitation and maintenance of a successful athletic team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Possess a thorough understanding of all PIAA and NFHS rules appropriate to the sport.
Adhere to attendance, eligibility and discipline policies.
Assist with collection and inventory of equipment.
Attend scheduled meetings with head coach.
Attend trainings, clinics, or conferences provided by the head varsity coach or athletic director.
Attend all JV/Varsity practices which occur prior to the start of the middle school season.
Communicate regularly with youth coaches running programs which serve as feeder programs.
Actively recruit students and encourage participation.
Assist with maintaining student participation during the season.
Assist with providing team building activities throughout the year.
Provide a positive example for students.
Teach techniques, strategies, and tactics which align with the philosophy of the head coach.
Assist in the development of season-long, monthly, and weekly plans for preparation and improvement (instruction, drill, competition, conditioning, and recovery).
Provide input toward the development of a written practice plan for each practice.
Assist in the implementation of daily practice plans which include clear objectives and organization that reflect season-long, monthly, and weekly plans.
Assist in providing time for instruction, drill, and competition as appropriate.
Model respect toward athletes, official, opposing team and spectators.
Teach respect toward teammates, opposing team, officials and spectators.
Support the defined standards of behavior communicated by the head coach.
Administer consistent, fair and firm discipline.
Work in cooperation with SDoL administrators, teachers, support staff.
Develop and demonstrate positive relationships with SDoL administrators, teachers, clerical workers and custodians.
Assist in providing year-round opportunities for athletes in the form of open gyms, camps, and/or competitive leagues.
Support the decisions and philosophy of the head coach.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist with the raising of funds through booster club/parent organization.
Other delegated duties assigned by the head coach.
TERMS OF CONTRACT: Hours indicated in SDoL/LEA Contract.
EVALUATION: Performance is evaluated per the Athletic Handbook
