  • POSITION REQUIREMENT: This position requires a Washington State Teaching Certificate with the appropriate Endorsement to teach in the content area advertised in this posting. LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION: Strong applications for this position include letters of recommendation from former and current supervisors, which speak to strengths in the areas of professionalism, collegiality, instructional capacity, and classroom management.

SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENTS:

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Meet with high school students who are behind in credits and are in need of developing an alternative High School and Beyond Plan.
  2. Coordinate a process of identifying and assessing students who need guidance and support in attaining on-time graduation.
  3. Serve as the liaison between students, administrators, counselors, teachers, and parents/families to create and monitor student graduation plans and work collaboratively with existing school teams.
  4. Track all documents pertaining to students and parents/families who have been identified for additional support for on-time graduation, make referrals, maintain records and prepare reports.
  5. Communicate with students about various options, interventions, programs, and services within Spokane Public Schools as well as community-wide post high school options that support their academic needs.
  6. Gather and analyze data and information for assessing and monitoring student needs and progress and share that data with appropriate staff.
  7. Work as an effective member of the school community to evaluate and improve student learning and options available.
  8. Communicate with local community colleges and district options that serve students that are at risk of dropping out of school.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Qualifies for a Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements as required by law and regulations. If possessing an initial or provisional certificate, the candidate must hold the appropriate endorsement.
  2. Knowledge of district graduation requirements, state, career and college requirements for post-secondary transition, district post-secondary planning curriculum, and community support and resources.
  3. Understanding of and experience in education working with program development and evaluation.
  4. Ability to adjust work schedule and location in order to be available to meet and provide support to students that have dropped out of school or are considering dropping out.
  5. Ability to relate effectively and positively to a diverse group of youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds, different learning styles, and special needs in a confidential manner.
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of culturally responsive programs and activities. Ability to function and provide intervention services with minimum supervision.
  7. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and oral form.
  8. Experience with computers and software such as Windows, Microsoft Outlook, Excel or spreadsheets, Publisher, PowerPoint, etc.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Masters in Social Work. In addition to contract, required 10 flexible days to be worked during summer paid at per diem.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

WORK YEAR: Certificated employees are contracted for a 180-day work year for a full year contract. BENEFITS - Fringe benefits for employees .5 or greater FTE include medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, and long-term disability coverage are provided for employees who work at least half-time or more in a regular position. In addition, employees have access to a variety of optional benefits through payroll deduction. SITE GOVERNANCE - Completion of transfer, reassignment to another location, change of position, promotion, or new hire is contingent upon the individual's agreement to sign the charter and any variances which may exist at the site and agreement to work within the framework of any covenant and principles of learning as determined by the site. ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP - Pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement between Spokane Public Schools and the Spokane Education Association, a newly-elected employee must either become a member of the association, pay an equivalent representation fee, or based on a bona fide religious objections, pay an equivalent amount to a nonreligious charity mutually agreed upon by the employee and the association.
