POSITION TITLE:
EDGE LITERACY MEDIA SPECIALIST

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's Degree in Library and/or Information Science or related field required
• Texas teaching and professional library certifications required
• Two school years of classroom teaching experience from a public or accredited private school required

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Ability to multi-task. Ability to work with a variety of students, staff and community members. Ability to lift or move books, equipment, and materials weighing up to 30 pounds. Work may include exposure to student body fluids. Work may include a noisy environment and/or disruptive student behavior.

JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY

To provide assistance to teachers so that appropriate research-based strategies are employed in order for students to achieve literacy. Integrate the curriculum, resources, and teaching strategies to promote student success and lifelong learning. Provide leadership on process and best practice approaches of successful technology facilitation with the wealth of resources available in the library. Empower students and staff to become effective users of ideas and information; to help them acquire 21st Century learning skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Be an integral part of the campus instructional team and help create a positive campus environment where literacy is emphasized and valued
• Plan and implement the campus Library program, which includes processing and organization of all library materials
• Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with students, staff and parents
• Provide job-embedded professional development to teachers
• Work collaboratively with the campus leadership team to establish library goals and support campus goals
• Play a leadership role on the campus with promoting student literacy
• Collaborate with teachers to plan and implement instruction that supports the curriculum
• Act as a consultant to coordinate student learning experiences with school, district and outside resources. This includes 1) participating in department, grade-level, school and district curriculum development and assessment projects; 2) offering assistance to teachers in the selection and purchasing of instructional materials; and 3) planning cooperatively with teachers to incorporate information skills into the classroom curriculum and to assist teachers with using resource based activities
• Develop and manage the library budget following defined FBISD policy and procedures
• Develop procedures for circulation of library materials and use of the library facility
• As needed, work with small groups of students who have reading difficulties using research-based intervention resources
• Maintain lines of communication with the district library coordinator, including attendance at library meetings and in-services
• Perform other duties as assigned
