U Position Summary U: Working with a team to maintain an attractive, sanitary and safe facility; providing adequate arrangement for meetings, classroom activities and events, minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure, and performing comprehensive maintenance.

EEE Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Maintain a program of building cleanliness to insure the comfort, health, and safety of students and staff.
  2. If the last person in the building, responsible for closing the building each school day and answering the alarm.
  3. Follow established procedures for securing the building and grounds for the purpose of minimizing property damage, loss and liability and ensuring safety.
  4. Monitor heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and to insure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
  5. Follow an established cleaning schedule that will include the cleaning of floors, counters, whiteboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms.
  6. Keep the building, sidewalks, roads, parking lots, and play areas neat and clean.
  7. Make minor building repairs as needed and report needed major repairs to the Facilities Manager.
  8. Monitor cleaning supplies and report low supplies to the Facilities Manager.
  9. Comply with occupational health and safety codes and standards.
  10. Inform Facilities Manager of any safety hazards.
  11. Keep informed of and comply with school policies and regulations concerning primary job functions.
  12. Report unauthorized person in or around school building to the Principal.
  13. Repair furniture, equipment and facilities for the purpose of ensuring that items and facilities are available and in safe working condition.
  14. Deliver supplies, mail, packages, furniture for the purpose of distributing the materials to the appropriate parties.
  15. Report equipment loss or damage to the Facilities Manager.
  16. Respond to emergency situations (e.g. facility damage, damaged athletic equipment, roof leaks) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety and property damage concerns.
  17. Set up and take down furniture for special events.
  18. Remove snow from sidewalks and ensure safe passage to and from buses and parking lot.
  19. Perform miscellaneous facility maintenance tasks, such as painting, snow and ice removal, landscape work, general grounds clean-up.
  20. Operate floor polishers, vacuums, carpet cleaners, floor strippers, waxers, lawnmowers, edgers, snow equipment, and all hand and power tools.
  21. Perform such other duties as may, from time to time, be assigned.

  11. Display a professional appearance. Knowledge and Ability:
  1. Knowledge of modern cleaning methods and use of cleaning materials and equipment.
  2. Knowledge of safe work practices.
  3. Ability to climb step and extension ladders.
  4. Ability to regularly lift/move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move and/or lift up to 100 pounds.
  5. Ability to regularly stand and/or walk for extended periods.
  6. Ability to bend, stoop kneel, crawl, balance, and crouch.
  7. Ability to work with and apply basic mathematical concepts, such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  8. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  9. Demonstrated success in reading and writing English at a level required for successful job performance.
  10. Work on multiple projects and respond to requests and deadlines in an accurate and timely manner. Qualifications and Experience :
  11. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   1. At least a high school diploma or GED.
  2. At least one year of custodial experience in a school setting.
  3. Hold and maintain a Delaware driver's license.
  4. Satisfactory PPD, fingerprint, criminal background, and drug screening.
