Qualifications: 1) Must possess a current license issued by the State of New York as a Registered Professional Nurse in good standing;
2) Must possess a current CPR/AED Certification;
3) Must have a good history of attendance;
4) Must have successful experience working with students and
adults;
5) New York State Fingerprinting Clearance.

Job Goals: The school nurse functions as a health care provider in the school setting and is responsible for the maintenance of a comprehensive health program that advocates for the health rights of children, and promotes an optimal level of wellness for students and staff.
The role of the school nurse in the health program include manager of health care, deliverer of health services, advocate for the health rights of children, families and staff and promoter of sound health care practices within the school and community.
The school nurse performs the duties in a manner consistent with professional standards, the New York State Nurse Practice Act and regulation applicable to school nursing practice and adheres to school district policies and procedures.

- Assists the Medical Director, District Health Committee and administrators in developing the school health program;
- Conducts school programs in accordance with New York State Mandated Screening, Vision, Hearing, Scoliosis Testing, Height, Weights, and Immunization Screening and Reporting;
- Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs;
- Maintains current cumulative health records on all students;
- Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics and other agencies on student health matters, as directed by the Medical Director;
- Assumes authority in the absence of a Medical Director or Physician for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness;
- Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures;
- Makes recommendations to the Medical Director and/or Director of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics on health needs of individual students;
- When necessary, contacts parents regarding their child's health needs;
- Implements policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases;
- Participates in in-service training;
- Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools;
- Assists with physical examination of students and staff;
- Keeps the Building Principal informed of health related situations on a regular basis;
- Handles other health related responsibilities as may be assigned by the Medical Director, Building Principal, Director of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics and Superintendent of Schools.
