ABOUT OUR DISTRICT:

The Syracuse City School District is undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the goal of ensuring that all students graduate high school with the skills needed to be ready for college and career. For Syracuse, all means all - including students who fall behind or have been considered "hard to serve" for a host of reasons. The School Board and Syracuse community have charged Superintendent Jaime Alicea with improving student achievement, and he is seeking a dedicated team of school leaders and teachers to partner with him in moving the district toward its goals. The Syracuse City School District represents 34 schools and 4 alternative education programs, serving 21,000+ students Pre-K-12 of whom 80% qualify for free or reduced price lunch, 19% are served by the Office of Special Education and 77% are students of color.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Content Impact Teacher has demonstrated highly effective practice in an area and will engage in additional responsibilities in order to build capacity of other staff members in that targeted area.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Content Impact Teacher will:

  • Be a model classroom for a designated area that they have demonstrated highly effective practice
  • Allow for an open classroom model where other teachers can observe highly effective practice
  • Provide professional development for teachers in the area of designated practice (both during Collaborative Team Planning and afterschool professional development)
  • Develop and implement model lessons and lab classroom experiences for teachers
  • Use video and real-time coaching to give and receive feedback on classroom lessons
  • Use protocols to lead teachers through student work analysis, instructional planning, and lesson plan design in their area of instructional focus
  • Meet bi-weekly with school leader to provide real-time data, overview of teacher progress, and updates in area of instructional focus

  • Ability to use and apply methods of effective instruction, including lecture and demonstration.

  • Ability to manage time, meet deadlines, prioritize projects, plan starting and ending deadlines, and successfully bring closure to projects.
  • Excellent computer and reporting skills.


EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's degree in education or a related subject.
  • Knowledge of subject matter being taught.
  • Two years of "effective" or "highly effective" ratings per APPR.
  • At least three years of prior teaching experience with demonstrated evidence of high-progress student outcomes in relevant subjects.
  • Technology proficiency and knowledge of digital learning may be required for certain assignments.
  • Proven experience accelerating measurable student learning in urban schools (preferred).
  • Experience adapting to and meeting the social, emotional and behavioral needs of all children.
  • Training and or experience with Culturally Relevant Education (preferred)
  • Prior demonstration of exemplary attendance is expected of any candidate for hire.
  • Please note that New York State requires a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5 for certification, and one hired, this proof will be kept on file in the Office of Human Resources.

SALARY/SALARY RANGE:

  • The current starting salary for SCSD Teachers is $48,500. With proof of outside related experience and college transcripts, the salary will be increased pursuant to the Unit 1 contractual agreement.
  • Teachers who are assigned to work at schools with extended learning time will receive an additional stipend.
  • Teachers will have opportunities to teach in our Summer School Programs, receiving an hourly rate of $42.69.
