Grants Specialist

Job Details

The Grants Specialist will, under general supervision, engage in the accounting for grant funded programs; designs, works with computerized accounting systems and internal controls to ensure operational efficiency; adheres to grant related work standards and processes; ensures the accurate and appropriate allocation of funds; reviews forecasts of anticipated expenses and revenues ensuring projections are based on valid economic trends; develops responses to auditors finding and assists in the development of processes and procedures to implement audit recommendations; Performs related duties as required.

Key Responsibilities:

a) Prepare and submit reimbursable grant claims, including expenditure reports and close out documents to ensure accuracy, completeness and timeless of grant accounting and reporting.

b) Reviews and examines various grants and takes the initiative to increase grant funding.

c) Minimize the risk of non-compliance with Federal, State and Local requirements and deadlines.

d) Assist in the development of Single Audit finding responses and collaborate with user departments to create and implement action plans.

Verify the information in the Gifts, Grants and Donations module to ensure compliance with grant guidelines and requirements.

f) Contribute to monthly, quarterly and annual grants aging and other analytical reports for management review.

g) Ensure the accuracy of grants related transactions in the Oracle Accounts Receivable module.

h) Prepare annual audit workpapers, as well as the fiscal data needed for inclusion in the Supplementary Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA) within the established deadlines.

i) Review data included in the various Accounts Receivable module reports and customer setups for accuracy.

j) Function as a liaison on grant accounting related issues with various departments such as Grants Management, Budget, Central Office Units and Schools.

Education and Experience:

a) Education Required-Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or business related field.

b) Experience Preferred- 2+years of experience in a large government or decentralized organization monitoring, accounting for and reporting on Federal, State and Local grants.

Computer Skills:

Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint; Oracle Financials. Oracle or similar ERP experience in a large decentralized is highly preferred.
