About this role....
As the Vice President, Professional Learning, you will be responsible for all aspects of NWEA's Professional Learning performance including maintaining delivery quality, financial goals, strategy for the product portfolio and support of NWEA organizational goals. You will lead all efforts associated with the design and delivery of professional learning products and services using a strong background in and knowledge of adult learning, cognitive theory, K-12 curriculum standards, implementation science and best practice. In this role you will be expected to develop a highly motivated and customer-focused team, setting a standard for best-in-class professional learning experiences. You will cultivate a presence for NWEA in K-12 educational thought-leadership circles and in the national professional learning and educational leadership discussion. This position reports to the Executive Vice President, Assessment and Professional Learning and will be located in our Portland, OR. headquarters.

Your next challenge...
Serving as the leader of the Professional Learning group, your responsibilities include:
• Overall vision for NWEA Professional Learning, including:
o Portfolio of Professional Learning services, informed by Product Management
o Instructional approach/plan for how professional learning should contribute to changes in educator behavior that improves student outcomes
o Management of high-level business partnerships to augment NWEA's portfolio and capacity
• Lead the ongoing strategic definition of new and innovative professional learning products and services
• In partnership with the Product Management and other NWEA teams, drive the business planning function for the Professional Learning team that addresses efficiencies, cost reduction, premium partner experience, and resourcing needs.
• Provide high-level oversight for the budget processes on behalf of the Professional Learning team; collaborate with other parts of the organization to ensure fiscal responsibility and stewardship; drive to business unit profitability.
• Support Professional Learning Leadership team in setting, monitoring, and achieving individual goals; provide supervision, leadership and mentoring of staff; inspire highest levels of performance across the team
• Assist in the development of KPIs for key professional learning projects and sustaining work
• Lead quality assurance practices and methodologies and identify areas of continuous improvement for Professional Learning services
• Ensure scalable, flexible, and effective scheduling and delivery of professional learning experiences for partners across multiple modes of delivery
• Establish thought-leadership presence in K-12 arena through writing and speaking at regional and national events, and engaging with key partners and colleagues
• Maintain awareness of industry standards, trends and best practices in Professional Learning service delivery and operations
• Support integration efforts for newly developed and acquired products and services to build a blended Professional Learning delivery approach in a scalable, efficient way
• Ensure consistency across Professional Learning, User Assistance, and Product Training, leading to delivery of highly coherent and highly effective partner experiences
• Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the success of the Professional Learning team and the entire organization
• Travel as needed to support strategic partnerships and other special projects

• Strong written and oral communication is a must as is tremendous creativity, flexibility, and comfort leading through ambiguity
• Demonstrated ability to effectively lead high performing teams and create an environment in which talent is nurtured and developed
• Ability to lead in a dynamic, fast changing environment, while demonstrating strong drive for results and execution
• Ability to create and implement business plans and manage business P&L
• Exceptional skills in partnering with clients and staff and in developing and maintaining long term supportive and collaborative relationships
• Understand team dynamics and ensure they build upon organizational culture and values; cultivate the appropriate actions and behaviors for colleagues and staff

Education and experience...


• Masters or Ph.D. in Education or related field required
• Eight to ten years of experience in directing/leading large-scale professional learning work
• Prior experience in the development of professional learning courses and/or workshops preferred
• Supervisory experience as skilled manager and team-builder
• Prior experience in P&L management
• Prior experience in both educational and business environments is preferred
