TITLE: LEVEL I BUILDING ENGINEER (BofE)
SALARY RANGE: $20.29 hourly

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS
Performs custodial related tasks including grounds maintenance, provides supervision of custodial staff, general maintenance, building security and safety. Performs other work, such as moving furniture, receiving and sorting supplies, snow and ice removal, etc. necessary to operating a school.
Minor maintenance of HVAC equipment, i.e. replacing filters, checking chemical feed systems, and troubleshooting complaint calls.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience and Training
Must have three (3) years of satisfactory work experience in building operations or commercial custodial work.
Must have High School Diploma or GED, satisfactory complete courses in HVAC RI, UNIVERSAL CFC Certification, and Boiler Operation, Basic Computer prior to employment.
Must satisfactory complete Homeland Security training once appointed to position.
Certification
Must have certification in HVAC R-1, CFC Universal, Boiler 1 at time of hire.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD: Six (6) months.
EXAMPLES OF KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS. ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS WHICH MAY BE SAMPLED/MEASURED/INCLUDED IN THIS EXAM:
Knowledge of:
Basic math (add, subtract, multiply and divide).
Basic English.
Basic computer skills (MS Office functions and Group Wise).
Basic supervision.
Basic types of HVAC systems.
Basic knowledge of emergency safety systems.
Custodial (including grounds maintenance) procedure, supplies, tools and equipment.
Building crafts skills sufficient to perform minor or routine and emergency repair work.
Basic knowledge to disconnect/disable building system (i.e., gas, water, and electric)
Ability to:
Keep simple records and prepare simple reports
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Ability to execute emails, create word documents, reports, and spread sheets
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
Perform chemical analysis and treatment of water to maintain prescribed standards in heating and cooling systems, if required
Recognize health, safety and security problems, and to respond appropriately
Keep abreast of new technology
Work under stressful situations/conditions; make decision, especially in critical situations
Work independently in absence of supervision
Perform preventive maintenance to custodial equipment and as directed to HVAC equipment.
Provide instructions/demonstrations/training in work to be performed
Establish schedules, priorities; delegate work; appraise work of others
Work overtime, weekends and other than normal day shift
Seek continuing education/training in order to advance knowledge and skill in the field and in job performance
Other Requirements:
Must have a valid Driver's License
Free of criminal convictions, especially in crimes involving non-adults, controlled substances, intoxication, pornography and burglary/robbery.
Physical strength and stamina to lift/carry/move heavy objects weighing as much as 100 pounds, and occasionally much heavier.
Willing and able to work at heights on ladders and scaffolding, as much as 30 feet.
Willing be able to work in extreme weather conditions (heat and cold), confined spaces and isolated areas.
Willing and able to work in cramped, dirty, dusty and isolated areas.
Body structure does not prevent access to work areas, such as narrow crawl spaces.
This is a sensitive classification, therefore applicants for appointment must pass security clearance, which includes a check of employment references and criminal records.

OPEN-TO-THE-PUBLIC EXAMINATION: GENERAL INFORMATION
FILING APPLICATIONS: Must be submitted through www.cps-k12.org. Applications must be received no later than stated deadline. Unless otherwise stated, work experience requirements must be met by paid experience, and all qualifications must be met by the application deadline date. TRANSCRIPTS: (IF NEEDED, NO LATER THAN THE DEADLINE DATE FOR FILING APPLICATIONS). PLEASE NOTE: Copies of unofficial versions or internet printouts of transcripts are NOT acceptable. ALTERNATE TEST DATE, TIME, LOCATION OR NECESSARY ASSISTANCE IN TAKING THE EXAM: Contact the CSPO in advance of the test date on 363-0140. PASSING SCORE: The passing score will be determined after the examination by the exam analyst, based on the job analysis, exam result analysis, consultation with subject matter expert, and/or other professional methods. Application accepted from both citizens and non-citizens; however, due to the Immigration Reform and Control Act, only citizens and aliens lawfully authorized to work in the U.S. will be hired. AGE REQUIREMENT: Must be at least 18 years old by the application deadline date. SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR QUALIFIED DISABLED: Such persons may arrange with the test analyst, no later than the application deadline, for an alternate test date, time or location, or necessary assistance in taking the exam, providing the security or integrity of the exam is not jeopardized nor an undue hardship (e.g., substantial additional cost or time) imposed. VETERAN'S CREDIT: 20% additional credit is given for military service or service as a Red Cross nurse. To qualify, the following requirements must be met EACH TIME an application is filed for an exam; have an honorable discharge or transfer to the reserves with evidence of satisfactory service, OR have been a Red Cross nurse; have served on active duty; and have shown an official document verifying such service (e.g., DD-214), no later than the exam date; and have passed the civil service exam. MEDICAL EXAM: Must pass any required medical exam before appointment.
