- A minimum of ten years successful experience in education, including teaching, supervision and/or administration.
- Graduate work beyond the Masters Degree with emphasis in pupil services, special education and administration.
- A valid New York State Certificate as a School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL).
- Strong communication, problem solving, conflict resolution and human relations skills.
- Administrative experiences in the areas of special education, student services, and information technology.
- Experience effectively working with parents, teachers and administrators.
- Philosophical compatibility with the stated mission and beliefs of the school district.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate.
- Is familiar with and contributes to the successful implementation of the District's Mission and Belief statements;
- Contributes significantly to school district planning and decision making consistent with the District's Mission and Belief Statements.
- Attends Board of Education meetings and prepares reports for the Board and other reports as the Superintendent may request.
- Administers and evaluates the District-wide K-12 Special Education program and Student Services program.
- Designs, implements, and ensures compliance relative to Federal and State regulations governing the Committee on Special Education and Committee on Preschool Special Education.
- Designs procedures and ensures compliance relative to Federal and State regulations governing the Section 504 process.
- Administers and evaluates the District Alternative Education program.
- Administers the District Wellness Program.
- Administers the District census and attendance programs.
- Oversees student discipline, including the Code of Conduct, and all Superintendent Hearings, pursuant to Section 3214 of the Education Law.
- Oversees student registration, enrollment, open enrollment, and residency, as well as the street directory and District maps.
- Oversees the District health program and school nursing services.
- Administers the K-12 school counseling, school psychology, school social work and related mental health programs.
- Participates in the recruitment, selection and appointment of administrative, teaching, student services, and support personnel.
- Oversees and assists in the development of District and Department budgets.
- Oversees District Safety Programming and the development of District and Building-Level safety plans. Member of the District Safety Committee.
- Participates in the development and/or delivery of the instructional program to include oversight of Gifted Programming services and the Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program.
- Participates in the administration of the District Technology program.
- Reviews and recommends updates to Board of Education policies as appropriate.
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as directed by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee.
