Job Title: District New Teacher Trainer: Multiple Positions
Compensation: $2500.00

Description
The new teacher trainer position is an excellent opportunity for an experienced coach who is skilled in facilitating adult learning and has a special interest in supporting teachers in the first two years of service. The primary responsibility of the new teacher trainer is to build the skills of early career teachers so that they are well-positioned to establish culturally responsive classroom routines, build postive relationships with students and families, and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners.

- What should a new teacher classrooom look and sound like by December?
- What skills and mindsets are critical for a new teacher to be successful in serving all students?
Required dates:
½ day in June - Date and time to be determined
- This session will be used to orient new teacher trainers to this project and will be held during regular working hours.
July - Date TBD 8:00-12:00
- New teacher trainers will practice delivering PD/lesson planning on selected SEI strategies.
July - 5-7 hours of pre-work
- New teacher trainers will be asked to do 5-7 hours of work at home to prepare for the August 14-16 planning sessions.
Aug 14-16 - 8:00-2:30
- New teacher trainers will help SPS leaders from T&L and the ELL department plan of the New Teacher Institute (Aug. 21-22 and Aug. 28-29). Partners from The New Teacher Project (TNTP) will assist with planning.
Aug - 5-7 hours of prep
- New teacher trainers will do at home prep for the sessions they are leading at the New Teacher Institute.
Aug 21, 22, 28 and 29 - 7:30-3:00
- All first year teachers are required to attend the New Teacher Institute. Second year teachers will be invited to attend.
- Coaches will lead training for new teachers on these dates with support from TNTP and district leaders.

Purpose of Position
This position plays a critical role in training new teachers in the following areas:
- Designing positive, collaborative, culturally affirming learning environments
- Designing rigorous, culturally responsive lessons
- Incorporating key scaffolds into lessons including using strategies such as sentences stems and leveled texts
- Building positive relationships with students and families
- Reflecting on mindsets necessary to serve all learners and increase efficacy
Qualifications:
- Successful instructional coach experience in SPS
- Possess a Massachusetts teaching certificate
- Knowledge of and experience using SEI strategies and other approaches to differentiating instruction
- Knowledge of the MA state curriculum frameworks and WIDA Can DO descriptors
- Demonstrated ability to model effective lessons (e.g. aligned to standards, intentional use of accessibility strategies.)
- Experience with standards-based practices and effective use of student data
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with teachers
- Experience providing professional development
- Experience engaging with teachers in conversation around race, inequity and inclusion
