Vacancy: The Milford School District is seeking qualified applicants for the position of school nurse. This position requires three years clinical experience, Bachelors in Nursing, RN license and CPR card. All applicants must be certified as a school nurse in the state of Delaware or be qualified to obtain such certification. The successful candidate will demonstrate managerial skills required of a fast-paced work environment and possess proficient oral and written communication skills. Reports to: Principal

Job Goal: To advocate for the health and well-being of students, staff, and the community by implementing federal, state, and local policies and guidelines.

Performance Responsibilities:
  • Assists the district and the medical community in developing school health policies and programs.
  • Participates in work of health curriculum committees.
  • Conducts school programs of immunization, physical examinations, and sight and hearing testing as directed by the district.
  • Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs.
  • Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.
  • Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters as directed by the district.
  • Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician or state/local emergency health personnel, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness while on school district property.
  • Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.
  • Makes recommendations to medical personnel on health needs of individual students.
  • Implements Board policy and state regulations on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
  • Participates in professional growth opportunities and maintains required licenses and certifications.
  • Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.
  • Provides professional development and training in health trends, issues, and practices to district and school personnel.
  • Attend student IEP meetings as needed.
  • Accompany students on fieldtrips as needed.
  • Other duties as may be assigned within the scope of services provided by medical professionals.

Terms of Employment: School nurses are employed for a 10-month year.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
