PURPOSE OF JOB: To promote, support, and maintain quality literacy instruction which results in an increase in student achievement and guarantees grade level readers by third grade. To build capacity and efficacy of teachers to internalize literacy instruction to make instructional decisions based on student data.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in the facilitation of the district literacy program.
Provide support to teachers and principals with the collection of data, analysis of data results and share findings with all staff and district leaders.
Support schools in reviewing student achievement and assisting with placement of students in the appropriate reading and writing intervention and support services.
Model targeted, research-based strategies with use of resources for teachers.
Provide a variety of professional development presentations that includes job-embedded, co-teaching, and co-planning in the area of literacy.
Assist teachers using software and materials related to English Language Arts curriculum.
Meet regularly with the classroom teacher to plan literacy instruction that correlates district curriculum with individual student needs.
Attend professional development to enhance knowledge of pedagogy and content, especially literacy.
Maintain and submit documentation of support schools.
Analyze data and provide targeted support in collaboration with the English Language Arts Coordinator and Lead Literacy Interventionist.
Perform other duties and responsibilities related to literacy as assigned by supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors in Elementary Education
Reading Certification
Minimum of five (5) years successful classroom teaching experience
Knowledge of early literacy research.
Knowledge of the 5 areas of reading instruction and how to explicitly teach each one.
Knowledge of reading inventories and miscue analysis.
Knowledge of guided reading.
Knowledge of Professional Learning Communities
Eligible to receive a Missouri Certification
Knowledge of Missouri Learning Standards
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters in Reading
Teaching experience in urban schools
Experience in curriculum and assessment development
