JOB GOAL:

To assist the principal in providing leadership, establishing and maintaining an

educational environment of high expectations in which all students will learn and all

staff will work cooperatively toward common goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Establish and maintain a safe, orderly, effective learning climate in the school and maintain high standards for student conduct and attendance.
  • Support the supervision the total school education program.
  • Support the application of effective principles to the total school program.
  • Protect and support instructional time
  • Meet regularly with the principal and instructional coach to share insights and coordinate support activities.
  • Support systems that assure high quality learning activities take place for all students in every classroom every day.
  • Work strategically with principal, instructional coach and teacher leaders to effectively implement the School Improvement Plan.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of an effective staff development program.
  • Assists in staff supervision and evaluation as directed by the principal and in accordance with Board policy.
  • Participate in supporting and ensuring effective organizational structures i.e. SLCs, Grade Level Meetings, and IEPs
  • Enforce the district's Code of Conduct in a fair and effective manner.
  • Work with Central Office administrative staff on issues such as transportation, special services, food service, etc.
  • Support the preparation and maintenance of all school records and reports in a usable, efficient manner, including student progress and attendance as required in Board policy and district guidelines.
  • Understand the student enrollment process.
  • Assist with planning and maintaining of the school budget.
  • Understand property inventory process.
  • Establish and maintain good relationships with local community groups and individuals.
  • Attend and support all school activities including parent and community events.
  • Assist with all official school correspondence and news releases within district guidelines.
  • Establish open communication between staff and parents through conferences, telephone calls, correspondence, etc.
  • Respond to written and oral requests for information as required by law and district guidelines.
  • Participate in principal meetings and such other meetings as required by the Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, Assistant Superintendents and Executive Directors.
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of all committees and councils within the school.
  • Keep abreast of current changes and developments in the profession.
  • Serves as principal in the absence of the principal.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal or Central Office administrators

QUALIFICATIONS:

Hold or be eligible for a Kansas license for building administrator/leadership grades K-5.

A minimum of four years of successful teaching experience, preferably at the elementary level.

Demonstrate skills in the principles of effective schools and teaching research.

Demonstrate skills in area of human relations; i.e. conferencing, listening, team building, collaborative decision-making, and parent involvement.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Demonstrate ability to motivate people and to form relationships.

Demonstrate ability to engage in both short and long-range planning involving various groups of staff.

High energy level and a record of excellent attendance.

Demonstrate data driven decision-making skills.

Demonstrate skills in facilitation of staff development.

Demonstrate ability to work effectively in maintaining high expectations to maximize elementary student learning

Demonstrate ability to be a reflective practitioner who assesses progress toward the continued improvement of the school

COMMUNICATION

Maintains communication with teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the educational needs of students.

Provides health services, information, and counseling in an effective and positive manner to enhance the health and wellness of the school community.

Completes accident/incident reports for students/staff.

Compiles data for statistical purposes.

Maintains confidentiality regarding educational records.

ORGANIZATION

Maintains a daily log of school/staff visits and documentation.

Maintains the daily environment of the health office facility and supplies.

Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.

Performs other related work as required.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and analyze and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, general curriculum and learning theories, correspondence, and protocols. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, stand and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of the job the employee occasionally may visit a child's home. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 211 days

SALARY: Salary based on Class II of the Administrators and Supervisors Salary Schedule.

FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT

REPORT TO: Building Principal

SUPERVISES: Building Staff (as assigned by the Principal)

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board of Education policy
