JOB DESCRIPTION
SUBSTITUTE SUMMER TRUCK DRIVER
JOB DUTIES:
Under general supervision drives a heavy truck (26,001 lbs. or more) on streets, highways and alleys in the Cincinnati School District and surrounding areas to haul materials and equipment. Loads and unloads trucks. Performs other duties as required. Receives general directions from a department supervisor. No formal supervisory responsibilities is exercised.
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:Drive a heavy truck to acquire materials or equipment form a warehouse, a stockpile or a supplier; transport materials or equipment to a work site of a building; and perform related types of hauling Performs pre-operations safety maintenance check on assigned equipment before beginning assigned work Loads and unloads trucks Performs heavy and/or unskilled manual labor when not driving a truck
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:State, local and federal traffic rules and regulations Pre-operation and maintenance checks necessary to maintain a truck in safe operating condition How to drive a truck under various road conditions (i.e., wet, icy or snow-covered streets) How to properly distribute a load on a truck How a truck operates How to recognize and explain breakdowns and malfunctions
Ability to:Drive a truck to accomplish assigned tasks without abusing the machinery Drive defensively to reduce incidence of accidents Drive safely in accordance with state and local traffic rules, and the rules and regulations of the Cincinnati Board of Education Perform routine maintenance tasks (i.e., fuel, add oil, put air in tires, etc.) Hear unusual noises in the engine or other parts of a truck or auxiliary equipment, and provide timely/appropriate response, when necessary Read work orders, maps, equipment manuals, etc. Follow oral and written instruction Complete report forms (i.e., breakdown, accident, daily work report, etc.)
Experience and Training:
Must be able to demonstrate possession of the knowledge and abilities listed above through training and/or experience, including the successful completion of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) training program, and two (2) years experience driving a large truck with no serious traffic violations.
License or Certification:
Must possess a current Ohio Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at time of application.
Environmental Conditions:
Outdoor environment; exposure to extreme driving conditions due to extremes in weather conditions, heavy traffic, narrow/complex loading unloading areas; etc.
Physical Conditions:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties require physical strength and stamina to lift/carry/support/balance/move heavy objects or work extended periods of time on jobs requiring above average physical stamina/strength; use of fingers and both hands; hear normal voice levels and to see.
