ELA TEACHER (ELEMENTARY)

Bates Elementary School

DEFINITION:

The 21st CCLC ELA Teachers shall be those certified employees of the school staff designated by the Superintendent of Schools to have the general responsibility to provide ELA-focused academic support within the For Kids Only Afterschool (FKO) summer program at Bates Elementary School.

The ELA Teachers will be responsible to provide students entering grades 2-5 with ELA/arts integrated project-based learning enrichment opportunities. In addition, the ELA Teachers will supervise students, engage in summer program observations and communicate on a regular basis with SPS District/Bates administration, the FKO Site Director and grant partners.

PREREQUISITE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Massachusetts Teacher Certification
  • Knowledge and understanding of out-of-school time programming


WORKING TIME:
  • Work Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday; 8:30am-12:00pm
    • Planning/Prep Time: 8:30am-9:00am and 11:30am-12:00pm
    • Instructional Time: 9:00am-11:30am
  • Duration: 5 Weeks, Monday, July 9, 2018 - Wednesday, August 9, 2018


COMPENSATION: $2,722.50 Stipend (8 hours of pre-summer planning + 52.5 hours summer program)

DUTIES:
  • In collaboration with community art specialists, plan and facilitate arts-integrated, literacy-focused project-based learning activities that are intentionally designed to improve ELA skills for targeted students;
  • Ensure projects are fun, hands-on and engaging and promote student voice and choice;
  • In collaboration with the FKO Site Director, plan culminating showcase night for students to present final projects and celebrate student learning;
  • Coach, mentor and provide technical assistance to FKO's out-of-school time educators to improve their use of instructional strategies and confidence in supporting the academic needs of students;
  • Ensure summer academic support is aligned to the ELA goals of Salem Public Schools;
  • Collect data needed for the 21st CCLC Grant;
  • Attend meetings and trainings in regards to summer programming and the 21st CCLC Grant;
  • Work with Bates School leadership, SPS Director of Expanded Learning and FKO Site Director/Administration in implementing the 21st CCLC Grant;
  • Report to the FKO Site Director for daily responsibilities or classroom assignment; and
  • Perform all other duties related to the 21st CCLC Grant that the Superintendent deems necessary.
