Job Details

The Board of Education of the Duval County Public School District in Jacksonville, Florida is seeking an exemplary educational leader to serve as their next superintendent.  It is anticipated that the new leader will begin their duties on July 1, 2018.  The Duval County Public Schools serve 128,000 students in 196 schools with families and students living in the numerous communities and neighborhoods within the county.  It is the 20th largest school district in the country.

The Duval County Public Schools are a microcosm of American society and include families of diverse races, ethnic groups, religions and socio-economic status.  Academic progress as measured by the graduation rate and the State of Florida rating system has shown significant improvement over the past years.  The graduation rate has improved 11.1% since 2012.  Schools earning an “A, “B or C” grade from the State of Florida increased to 89% contrasted to 75% one year ago.

  • Financial Acumen.  Financial experience and savvy and the ability to stretch resources with limited funding
  • Relationship builder.  Collaboratively builds relationships and trust with all constituencies in Duval; community, schools, central office, Board of Education and City government
  • Communicator who  can tell the “DCPS” story to many different audiences
  • Visionary, possesses a strong vision for education and provides the leadership, courage and management to achieve that vision
  • Recruits, develops, evaluates and retains outstanding staff members at all levels
  • Demonstrates fairness, ethics and honesty
  • Collaborative and decisive, demonstrating both creativity and risk-taking skills
  • Trustworthy and fosters trust and transparency
  • Process oriented and can define and implement the roles and responsibilities needed for operations, governance and outreach in a large school division.

 

With regard to leadership experiences and accomplishments, the successful candidate will: 

  • Currently be certified or is able to be certified as a Florida superintendent
  • Demonstrate a solid track record of increasing responsibilities and success
  • Have experience in a medium to large urban school division and/or has experience as a superintendent
  • Possesses a doctorate degree (preferred)
