JOB GOAL: To establish and maintain an orderly educational environment in which all students will learn and all staff will work cooperatively toward common goals, with high expectations, to maximize student learning. To maintain this high standard in all areas and assess progress toward the continued improvement of the school.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Establish and maintain a safe, orderly, effective learning climate in the school.
  • Supervise the total school education program.
  • Lead in the application of effective principles to the total school program.
  • Schedule school time to provide for the maximum protection of instructional time with a minimum of disruptions.
  • Meets regularly with the Teacher Leader to share insights about instruction and coordinate support activities for teachers.
  • Create and support systems that assure high quality teaching and learning take place for all students in every classroom every day.
  • Collaborates with staff to effectively implement and monitor the school's plan to improve student learning.
  • Lead in the implementation and monitoring of the district's Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum.
  • Supervise and monitor the school's standardized testing program as required in district guidelines.
  • Leads the staff in the analysis of assessment data to maximize student learning and achievement.
  • Applies knowledge about adult learning to develop and implement professional development that meets the needs of the staff.
  • Assist in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, and assigning of the school's staff.
  • Cooperate with college and university officials regarding teacher training and preparation.
  • Supervise staff evaluation procedures as provided in Board policy.
  • Supervise all personnel assigned to the school.
  • Recommend the dismissal of unsatisfactory staff members as per Board policy and other legal requirements.
  • Assesses the implementation and impact of professional development on teachers' instructional practices, continuous school improvement, and student learning.
  • Collaborates with staff, students, parents, and community to create systems of change that impact student achievement and builds a culture of collegiality.
  • Orient new staff to the programs, staff, students, community, and facilities of the school.
  • Develop the master teaching schedule to meet student-learning needs.
  • Delegate responsibilities to staff in order to maintain the efficient operation of the school.
  • Administer appropriate provisions of all negotiated agreements with employee groups as provided in the agreements.
  • Supervise and expedite the screening, referral, and placement process for special education students under the guidelines established by the Board of Education and the Wyandotte County Special Education Cooperative.
  • Maintain high expectations for student conduct and attendance.
  • Enforce the district's Code of Conduct in a fair and effective manner.
  • Establish high expectations for staff responsibility in student conduct.
  • Supervise all activities and programs that are outgrowths of the school's curriculum.
  • Inform the superintendent, assistant superintendents and Elementary District Coach of Implementation of the school's programs, activities, needs, and problems.
  • Inform and work with Central Office administrative staff on school issues such as transportation, special services, food service, etc.
  • Supervise the preparation and maintenance of all school records and reports in a usable, efficient manner, including student progress and attendance as required in Board policy and district guidelines.
  • Supervise student enrollment.
  • Administer the school budget as required in district guidelines.
  • Supervise the collection, allocation, and accounting of all school funds as required in the district guidelines.
  • Assume responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant including the grounds.
  • Supervise daily use of the school facilities for maximum efficiency for both academic and nonacademic purposes.
  • Plan and supervise fire and tornado drills as required by law and district policy.
  • Implement as needed and supervise the district's Standard Response Protocol.
  • Supervise the maintenance of inventories of properties of the school plant.
  • Monitor and evaluate facilities and recommend renovations as needed.
  • Attend school-sponsored activities.
  • Support parent school-related organizations such as PTA and PTSA.
  • Establish and maintain good relationships with local community groups and individuals.
  • Assume responsibility for all official school correspondence and news released within district guidelines.
  • Establish open communication between staff and parents through conferences, telephone calls, correspondence, etc.
  • Respond to written and oral requests for information as required by law and district guidelines.
  • Participate in principal meetings and such other meetings as are required by the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendents and Elementary District Coach of Implementation.
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of all committees and councils within the school.
  • Keep abreast of current changes and developments in the profession.
  • Maintain own professional growth and development through reading, participation in professional organizations, attendance at professional meetings, and reenrollment in courses.
  • Implement all Board policies and regulations governing school's students and staff.
  • Leads in the development and maintenance of professional learning communities
  • Supervises: all staff assigned to the elementary school.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Hold or be eligible for a Kansas certificate for building administrator grades K-5.

A minimum of five years of successful teaching experience at the elementary level. (Preferred but not required)

Experience as a building administrator at the elementary school level. (Preferred but not required)

Demonstrate skills in the application of the principles of effective school research.

Knowledge of effective teaching research and methods.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with elementary school students.

Demonstrated abilities as a master teacher.

Excellent skill in human relations; i.e. conferencing, active listening, team building, collaborative decision-making.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Knowledge of principles of finance relating to elementary schools.

Demonstrated ability to motivate people and to form relationships.

Demonstrated ability to engage in both short and long-range planning involving various groups of staff.

Demonstrated ability to delegate duties for the effective operation of a school.

High energy level and a record of excellent attendance.

Knowledge of laws and court decisions relating to education and to elementary schools specifically.

Knowledge of school needs regarding facilities, equipment, and materials.

Demonstrated ability and willingness to provide parents opportunities to participate in school planning.

Demonstrates data driven decision-making skills.

Demonstrate skills in facilitation of staff development.

COMMUNICATION

Maintains communication with teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the educational needs of students.

Provides health services, information, and counseling in an effective and positive manner to enhance the health and wellness of the school community.

Completes accident/incident reports for students/staff.

Compiles data for statistical purposes.

Maintains confidentiality regarding educational records.

ORGANIZATION

Maintains a daily schedule with classroom visits/observations as priority.

Maintains a daily log of school/staff visits and documentation.

Maintains the daily environment of the health office facility and supplies.

Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.

Performs other related work as required.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and analyze and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, general curriculum and learning theories, correspondence, and protocols. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public.

SALARY: Salary based on the Administrators and Supervisors Salary Schedule.

REPORT TO: Assistant Superintendent

EVALUATION: Performance of the principal will be evaluated in accordance with Board of Education policy on administrator's evaluations by the Executive Director of Instruction.
