Introduction and reinforcement of educational processes and materials for students
General Information: Interprets and/or transliterates English and signed concepts to any necessary specialized vocabulary used by a student,staff or visitors in educational settings. Necessary specialized vocabularies may include, but are not limited to American Sign Language, English-based sign language, cued speech, and/or oral transliterating. As a member of the educational team, works closely with teachers responsible for the student's educational program. Employees may be moved during the school year to accommodate programmatic needs.
Substitute Educational Interpreter I
Job Description
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or G. E. D., temporary license issued by the Kentucky Board of Interpreters for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Continuing Education Requirements
- One year (1) experience interpreting in an education setting or working in the deaf community with supporting documentation or graduation from an Interpreter Training Program.
If your highest education is High School or GED you must take and pass the Kentucky Paraeducational Assessment Exam. The exam is free and you have three chances to obtain a passing score. Click KPA Study Guide

Desirable Qualifications:
- Associate Degree or two (2) years of post secondary education (interpreter training program preferred) or approved equivalent, member in professional interpreter and/or other organizations relating to deafness
Substitute Educational Interpreter II
Job Description
Working Calendar: 187 Days/6.5 hours per day
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate degree or minimum of 64 semester hours of college.
- Demonstrated proficiency of two (2) languages, English and the appropriate language.
- Experience in working with children and parents with special needs, multi-cultural and multi-ethnic backgrounds
Desirable Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree.
- Classroom experience with Elementary Middle or High School students.
Substitute Educational Interpreter III
Job Description
Working Calendar: 187 Days/6.5 hours per day
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in interpreting, education or related field
- Two (2) year's experience interpreting in an educational setting or related field with supporting documentation
- Full license issued by the Kentucky Board of Interpreters for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Desirable Qualifications:
- Member in professional interpreter and/or other organizations relating to deafness
