Regional Director of Operations: El Paso Campuses

Location: This position is based out of IDEA El Paso Regional Offices.

Role Mission : IDEA Public Schools operates high-quality charter schools with the mission of sending every student to and through college. The Regional Director of Operations (RDO) will have primary responsibility for regional operations, including but not limited to those involving enrollment, transportation, facilities, food service, technology, and other general operations. The RDO will lead Assistant Principals of Operations (APOs) to success through ongoing coaching and development and in-depth monitoring of regional performance metrics. The RDO is tasked with ensuring that regional and campus operations are running efficiently, so that instructional staff can focus on instruction without operational obstacles.

Additionally, the Regional Director of Operations works as a key strategic partner to the Executive Director in helping to create and shape organizational vision, set regional goals and objectives, and establish IDEA's reputation as a strong community partner, as well as a first-class operator of schools whose results have a demonstrable impact on education across the region.

Responsibilities :

IDEA successfully accomplishes 100% of its pre-opening activities prior to launch in El Paso in August 2018
  • Partner with the Executive Director (ED) in establishing and setting a vision for the El Paso region and establishing organizational culture
  • With support from IDEA's Headquarters Operations Team, implement and oversee superior operations support efforts, including Enrollment, Facilities, Transportation, Food Service, Technology, Operational Data Reporting, etc.
  • 100% of operations staff are hired by July 1st for the coming school year
  • In coordination with the Operations and Human Assets teams, plan and launch professional development for all operational staff prior to first day of school

  • Selects top talent for IDEAs growing organization
  • Develops with the support of HQ staff an effective and timely onboarding process for each employee
  • Supports in the development of professional development plan/goal setting conversations within the first 30 days
  • Builds the leadership and management capacity of APOs to ensure the success of campus ops teams
  • Works with APOs to implement strategies to effectively lead
  • Ensure that 100% of campuses meet enrollment targets for each grade and school

100% of Operations/Auxiliary Services Goals are Met Annually

School Operations
  • Supervise, support and evaluate the operations team
  • Manage APOs to ensure that campuses are equipped for start-up/new school year by ordering furniture, equipment, and classroom supplies
  • Manage APOs to ensure the maintenance of campus facilities by managing custodial personnel and third-party contracts for trash removal, recycling, and security
  • Manage regional food and transportation services by coordinating with service providers and overseeing deliveries
  • With the support of IDEA's HQ Operations Team, ensure compliance with all state, federal, and policies related to public school operations
  • Manage regional supply and asset inventory
  • Oversee regional and campus compliance and reporting
  • Ensure procedures are in place to maintain accurate & organized records of student information

Student Health and Safety
  • Ensure legally compliant safety procedures are in place, including schedules for fire, evacuation, crisis, bus drills, and school nursing
  • Prepare operations staff to assist with non-instructional supervision of students, as needed, such as arrival/dismissal, hallway monitoring, substitute teaching, lunch & playground duty, or supervision of extracurricular activities

100% of schools meet recruitment goals for all open grades
  • Lead the planning and execution of regional student recruitment activities, such as open houses, feeder school visits (if applicable), home visits, enrollment lotteries, etc., that target families with school-aged children within the 3-mile radius immediate surrounding each campus
  • Coaches APOs in their region to recruit new families with specific applicant goals per grade level, 175 quality applications for 1st,,2nd & 6th grades
  • Work with the HQ team to review brand awareness and recruitment campaigns in order to meet recruitment goals
  • Complies with all federal, state and organizational student registration requirements throughout the enrollment process (i.e. transfers, testing, etc.)
  • 100% over enrollment goal for summer registration in June

Family On-boarding
  • 100% of all new parents are on-boarded and enrolled prior to the 1 st day of school
  • Ensures all new families in the region are effectively on-boarded beginning with Welcome to IDEA and persist through their first year in our schools
  • Works with schools to have 100% parent attendance for WTI, 90% commitment letters

85% Staff Retention
  • Ensures that all employees receive feedback via IDEA's development cycle
  • 100% of all employees participate in the organizational survey
  • Works to ensure 100% of all employees receive recognition or praise for their work
  • 100% of all employees have the materials and equipment needed to perform their work

New land sites purchased 18 months prior to school commencing
  • Work with Executive Directors and local brokers to identify sites for new potential IDEA schools in line with budget parameters, land specifications and regional growth plans
  • Meets all established pre-construction timelines regarding land identification and purchasing.
  • Work with the business office to complete the purchasing process based on the established timeline (18 months prior to the first day of school).
  • All schools built on time and on budget

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required; Masters preferred
  • Strong belief in IDEA's mission

  • Demonstrated ability to continuously improve and make modifications as necessary to ensure goals are reached
  • Understanding and/or personal experience in the K-12 landscape, especially with charters preferred
