Job title: Third Grade Teacher (2018-2019)

Job Location: Horace Mann Laboratory School

Position Overview:

The Horace Mann Laboratory School (HMLS) is seeking an innovative and collaborative third grade teacher who comfortably fosters a safe and positive classroom environment with high student engagement, ambitious goals and joyful learning. This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher who wants to inspire students through authentic hands-on literacy, mathematics, science and social studies units. We are eager to identify an individual who is able to collaborate effectively with the other members of our staff, sees herself/himself as a learner, and can balance both the rigorous responsibility as well as the joy and humor of working in a K-5 school. HMLS supports teachers' professional growth through grade-level professional learning communities, an instructional coaching model, and mentoring for beginning teachers.

In recent years HMLS has experimented with a departmentalized 3 rd grade model, in which one teacher has taught literacy and the other has taught math, science and social studies. Although this model is currently under review, it is possible that the successful candidate will be asked to specialize in literacy, math, science and/or social studies.

The Horace Mann Laboratory School serves children and families from a diverse range of backgrounds. We value diversity among our staff as well and are eager to field applications from candidates who represent diverse racial, cultural and linguistic backgrounds. The successful candidate will possess a strong conceptual understanding of literacy, mathematics and science instruction at the elementary level and an unwavering belief in the power of school communities to make a difference in the lives of children. This individual will work under the general supervision of the principal and assistant principal and will be evaluated following the professional standards articulated in the Massachusetts Teacher Rubric.
