Job Description / Essential Elements: Humphreys College Academy of Business Law and Education
A Public Charter High School
General Purpose
To plan, organize, and implement an instructional program that combines the best and most effective use of direct instruction in combination with digital curriculum to create a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities (including but not limited to the following)
  • maintain professional appearance, attire, and demeanor at all times
  • plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences
  • prepare a syllabus and pacing guide for each semester class taught
  • develop unit and lesson plans
  • establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
  • provide appropriate learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
  • identify and select appropriate instructional resources and methods to meet students' varying needs
  • instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials, equipment, and technology
  • use relevant technology to support instruction
  • observe and evaluate student's performance and development
  • assign and grade class work, homework, tests, and other assignments
  • provide appropriate feedback on student work and academic progress
  • encourage and monitor the progress of individual students
  • maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development
  • update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations
  • prepare required reports on students and activities
  • manage student behavior and maintain discipline in the classroom
  • perform certain pastoral duties including but not limited to student support, counseling students with academic problems and providing student encouragement
  • participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations
  • communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs
  • keep current with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods, and technology and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities
  • provide advocacy and leadership for the design, organization, and implementation of programs, instruction, initiatives, and standards, within the teacher's academic specialty.
  • serve as Educational Mentor for assigned students by providing immediate oversight over students' schedules and academic progress, a liaison between the students and all appropriate and applicable school processes, and a regular communications bridge between the school and the students' families
  • perform services in accordance with and as required by applicable state and federal laws as well as by board rules, regulations, policies, or directives
Requisite Skills, Knowledge, Education, and Experience
  • bachelors degree or higher from an accredited institution
  • meet professional teacher education requirements of school, district, state
  • single subject teaching credential with appropriate certification for the specific teaching assignment
  • certification by the State of California
  • relevant teaching experience
  • command of current pedagogy including the elements of direct instruction, strategies to maximize learner engagement, interdisciplinary writing, behavior management strategies, and competence with Google Apps, ABLE's student information system (currently SPSIS but subject to change), and ABLE digital curricula (currently NovaNet but subject to change)

Requirements for Applying
We require BA or BS degree and single-subject California teaching credential with appropriate authorization, intern eligibility and credential, or out-of-state credential meeting California requirements.
