Exam School Initiative - Mathematics or Language Arts Teacher (Summer 2018)
**THIS IS A SUMMER SCHOOL POSITION. EMPLOYMENT IS SEASONAL AND TEMPORARY**

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Exam School Initiative (ESI), managed by the Office of Opportunity & Achievement Gaps and Boston Latin School, strives to bridge the gap for students in the district's traditionally underrepresented schools to gain admission and achieve success at one of the three Boston exam schools (Boston Latin Academy, Boston Latin School and the John D. O'Bryant School of Math & Science). We are seeking dedicated instructors to assist in preparing rising 6 th graders to take the Independent School Entrance Exam. We are seeking instructors who can adapt to varied learning abilities, and are skilled in teaching in an accelerated manner.

REPORTS TO: Position reports to Michael Giordano, Program Director, who works in close collaboration with the Office of Opportunity & Achievement Gaps.

PROGRAM SCHEDULE:
The program will run for two weeks, August 13 - 24, 2018; 7:45 AM - 12:45 PM.
  • 7:45 AM - 8:00 AM Supervision
  • 8:00 AM - 12:30 PM Instruction
  • 12:30 PM - 12:45 PM Supervision

Teachers will be paid an additional 5 hours for program orientation (3 hours) and to complete an end of the year report and evaluation (2 hours).

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide effective instruction to prepare students for the ISEE Exam in Mathematics and Language Arts.
  • Use the SUMMIT Curriculum and Scope and Sequence
  • Administer pre and post tests
  • Analyze pre and post test as well as ongoing assessments
  • Take accurate daily attendance and perform other tasks as requested

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Massachusetts teaching license in the appropriate area
  • Familiarity with Exam Schools and rigorous expectations
  • Content expertise in ELA and/or Math
  • Certification in elementary education, Math, Reading or related area
  • Current authorization to work in the United States. Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment

QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED:
  • Current teacher in the Boston Public Schools.
  • Teachers of grades 5, 6, 7 or 8 preferred
  • BPS values linguistic diversity and believes that candidates who speak another language bring added value to the classroom, school, and district culture and diversity.
    • BPS is particularly interested in candidates who are fluent in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali.

TERMS: Stipend position.
Hourly rate of $40/hr. Anticipated total of 55 hours including professional development, on-site program time, and additional duties, for an estimated total amount of up to $2,200. Payroll will be processed as a stipend at the end of the program.
