Description
The User Experience Designer, Level 2, works as part of an agile software development team to design successful solutions for applications that support business goals and user needs. As part of a cross-disciplinary agile team, s/he conducts user research; translates user goals and requirements into interactive user experiences via user flows, concepts, detailed wireframes, and prototypes; reviews the implementation; and provides recommendations based on usability testing results.

The UX Designer will work with Principal and Senior UX Designers, Instructional Designers, Product Owners, and Developers on the UX design of complex applications. The UX Designer should be creative and technically adept, highly collaborative yet also able to work independently, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and passionate about improving educational experiences for users.

• Employs user-centered methodology to design information architectures and interactive functionality that accommodates user needs and meets the standards of navigation, layout and labeling;
• Collaborate within cross-functional teams to understand information needs, functionality requirements, dependencies and impacts, and facilitate user story development and design.
• Participate in scrum meetings and take the initiative to prepare for and organize other necessary meetings such as design reviews;
• Perform user research such as field studies, interviews, focus groups, and surveys and use results to inform product design;
• Communicate solution approach through development of flow diagrams, conceptual designs, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and specifications that adhere to accessibility and mobile-ready guidelines and maintain design consistency and coherence across product;
• Create product design deliverables within time and budget;
• Identifies and develops new patterns as needed;
• Communicates with colleagues and management to ensure product remains true to State d goals of functional design throughout development;
• Understands and incorporates design principles and accessibility and mobile-friendly/responsive guidelines into product designs.
• Contributes to continuous improvement of the scrum team, agile processes, and the User Experience community at K12;
• Participates as the UX Designer on a Scrum team. This involves:
o Partnering with product owners to understand the vision and business value for the feature or project; participating in planning sessions to develop and maintain the feature or product roadmap.
o Understanding the product backlog and user story prioritization in order to conduct and incorporate user research and deliver designs before implementation;
o Collaborating with cross-functional teams comprised of product management, UX Designers, Visual Designers, Developers, Testers, and other subject matter experts to understand information needs and functionality requirements, dependencies and impacts, and facilitate user story development and design.
o Ensuring delivery of artifacts as agreed to by the team including flow diagrams, conceptual designs, wireframes, interactive prototypes, visual designs, and specifications that adhere to accessibility and mobile-ready guidelines.
o Reviewing implementation for adherence to designs and style guide.
o Initiating usability tests on concepts and finalized designs.
o Participating in daily scrum meetings and agile ceremonies such as Sprint Planning and taking the initiative to prepare for and organize other necessary meetings such as design reviews.
o Contribute to continuous improvement of the scrum team.

• Bachelor's degree in human-computer interactions, applied learning sciences and education technology, human factors, product design or related field AND
• Two (2) years of experience in web application product design OR
• Equivalent combination of education and experience

Certificates and Licenses: None required.

OTHER REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Understands the principles of user-centered design
• Understands innovative graphical user interface design, information design, and interactive design
• Ability to craft visual representation of large systems, complex relationships, data and task flows
• Understands and has experience with web technologies including HTML, CSS, Bootstrap
• Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment
• Excellent written, oral and diagrammatic communication skills
• Adept with relevant design and information flow software (Axure, Invision, Sketch, Photoshop)
• Ability to pass required background check

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment
• Experience designing for accessibility (WCAG 2.0)
• Experience designing for responsive design or mobile applications.
