SUBJECT: MIDDLE SCHOOL SPRING INTRAMURAL COACHING POSITIONS

REPORTS TO: Middle School Principal / Director of Intramural and Interscholastic Athletics

ANTICIPATED START DATE: APRIL 2, 2018

MIDDLE SCHOOL INTRAMURAL OPENINGS FOR SPRING 2018

1 Worcester East Middle School
2 Forest Grove Middle School

The spring intramural season will start April 2nd and will conclude June 15th. The Director of Intramural and Interscholastic Athletics will meet with all spring intramural coaches prior to the start of the season.

Preference will be given to qualified individuals who work in the applicable school and are able to begin the work immediately at the end of the school day.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Responsible for working with the building principal to create, plan, organize, facilitate and coach an intramural program that is based-upon building need and student interest.

2. Responsible for planning, organizing and implementing the teaching of fundamentals, strategies, rules and proper conditioning in the target sport.

3. Issue, collect, inventory and return equipment, and other materials (e.g., first aid kit, coach's handbook) consistent with department guidelines.

4. Responsible for adequate supervision of all students involved in the program and ensuring the safety of participants by inspecting facilities and equipment, and being aware of environmental conditions.

5. Responsible for supervision of student participants on site.

6. Instruct participants in safety procedures and in the need to report injuries to the building principal or site administrator immediately; implement appropriate procedures for handling injury situations; ensure the availability of a properly supplied first aid kit.

7. Responsible for completing and submitting the following to the appropriate building principal or site administrator:

• WPS Standard Accident Report Forms
• Disciplinary action
• Parent Complaints

8. Responsible for attending a variety of related activities as assigned, including a preseason meeting.

9. Perform other related duties as assigned by the building principal and Director of
Intramural and Interscholastic Athletics including, but not limited to:

• The maintaining of attendance at the start of each session.
• The collection of each signed participation form distributed to participants at the beginning of each season.
• Monitoring the arrival and dismissal of students from the program including those being picked-up at the conclusion of the program, and remain until all students are picked up.
• Adherence to the policies and procedures of the Coach's Handbook.
• Signing and returning the coach's evaluation at the completion of each season.

11. Performance of other job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Demonstrated ability to work with students, officials and the community

2. Commitment to provide equal opportunity in sports for all students

3. Must maintain CPR/ AED training

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Experience and training in appropriate areas of athletics (rules of sport, techniques of coaching), organization and administration

2. Flexibility with work hours, duties, and assignment, but must be available immediately after the conclusion of the school day. Specific days and timeframes for work will be planned with building principal, but could average 3-4 days per week.

3. Demonstrated experience supporting students with special needs

4. Ability to speak Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Vietnamese, Albanian, or an African Language.

5. Demonstrated experience with second language acquisition.
