D'Evelyn is an "option" school, offering students a rigorous and disciplined education in the liberal arts. The D'Evelyn Program Document states that the school "is based on the belief that all students, not just an elite group, should be held to rigorous academic and behavioral standards, and that all students can achieve in a challenging program. We believe the purpose of education is to convey an essential body of cultural knowledge to the next generation, and that a solid liberal arts education is required in order for all citizens to be effective participants in their communities." The comprehensive textbook-based curriculum is aligned both vertically and horizontally.

The school's operational philosophy emphasizes the "participatory approach" to management. Job Description

As a member of the Social Studies department, the teacher will be expected to deliver a comprehensive curriculum in the areas of Geography (7 th grade) and United States History (8 th grade). It is expected that the teacher selected will also assist the students with development of essential study skills as well as writing and reading instruction, which are incorporated into the curriculum. This educator will be part of a curriculum delivery team working closely with at least two additional Junior High School Social Studies teachers. Familiarity and commitment to pacing guides, common assessments, and collaborative instructional planning are imperative for members of our faculty. We are looking for an individual who:

  • Demonstrates understanding of and alignment with D'Evelyn's philosophy and Program Document.
  • Demonstrates strong content mastery, lesson planning skills, and classroom and time management skills.
  • Believes in teacher-directed, whole group instruction and well organized classroom lessons.
  • Is able to maintain positive relationships with administration, staff, parents, and students
    and the desire to work together with all of these educational stakeholders as a team.
  • Believes in a strictly enforced behavior code.
  • Believes in educational choice and the ability and desire to work in an environment that values parental involvement.
  • Is proficient in the areas of grammar, composition, oral and written communication skills.
  • Exhibits a desire to work in a collaborative, liberal arts, college preparatory, and textbook-based environment.

One page statement of applicant's educational philosophy Cover letter explaining the applicant's interest in D'Evelyn . Three letters of reference Transcripts covering the applicant's entire post-secondary education. The transcripts must show a major in History or Social Sciences, with a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0 in the major , or an advanced degree in subject of Social Sciences/History, with a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0 in the courses taken for the advanced degree . All required Colorado teaching license(s) or evidence that the requisite license will be acquired prior to the first day of employment at the schoo 2. Essential Functions:
Teach courses in Social Studies to secondary students.

Utilize District curriculum that reflects the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served in accordance with the Common Core Standards and graduation requirements.

Prepare effective lessons and conducts teaching and instructional activities, utilizing educational technology, materials, and other learning aids.

Reviews, analyzes and evaluates student data to adapt and design instruction.

Individualizes and adapts educational processes and procedures to enhance student educational opportunities.

Provides group and individual instruction to motivate students, and effectively utilizes the time available for instructional activities.

Establishes appropriate standards of student behavior, using behavioral management strategies and techniques.

Create a positive student learning environment.

Work collaboratively with content teams to help develop formative and summative assessments, design projects, and assignments according to the syllabus, etc. to be shared with other members of the department.

Collaborate with other school based and district teams to aide in student learning and achievement goals. Establishes communication with parents

Qualifications
1. Must hold a valid Colorado teaching license or authorization.

2. Must meet content-area qualifications, which could include the appropriate license endorsement, degree in the content area, Colorado State Board of Education-approved content exam, or 36 credit hours as determined by the district.
