Job Summary
Supports principal in overseeing the school's climate plan to ensure an environment that is conducive to learning. Oversees and supervises all school-based non-instructional positions and works with staff to ensure that students' social-emotional needs are met.
Essential Functions
Under the direction of the Principal:
  • Supervises and coordinates all climate, behavioral and discipline programs and services to ensure that students receive the full complement of prevention and intervention measures prior to disciplinary action being taken.
  • Provides technical support and guidance to school staff for students with actual or potential behavioral and/or social/emotional problems; supervises the implementation of school-based and district-wide school climate initiatives; and participates in and supervises the enforcement of the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Provides assistance and coordinates support services to students transitioning back into school from disciplinary or other behavioral related placements, including the Reentry Transition Initiative-Welcome Return Assessment Program (RETI-WRAP).
  • Networks with external partners and assists with the coordination of interagency collaborations with organizations which provide school-based behavioral programs and services.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, counseling, psychology or a related field.
  • Four years of full-time, paid professional experience working with children with behavioral and/or disciplinary issues.
OR
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, counseling, psychology or a related field.
  • Four years of full-time, paid professional experience working with children with behavioral and/or disciplinary issues
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of:
  • theories and principles of student growth and development.
  • techniques of supervision and the delegation of responsibility.
  • current social, educational, and economic issues as they relate to urban families
Knowledge of:
  • evidenced-based school climate strategies
Ability to:
  • assess, advise, direct and supervise the activities of personnel engaged in the provision of non-instructional services.
  • operate a personal computer.
  • express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • effectively supervise the implementation of the Student Code of Conduct.
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Interviews may be conducted to determine how well a candidate meets the established criteria. Note that not all qualified candidates may be selected for an interview. The selected candidate must have no anecdotal record on file and have not been subject to any disciplinary action within the past eighteen (18) months, and have an excellent record of attendance and punctuality during the last three (3) years (defined as no more than eighteen (18) occasions of lateness or absence for personal illness in the last three years (3) years with the exception of one extended long-term absence.
