Adapted Physical Education (APE) Teacher

The Adapted Physical Education Teacher provides APE services to students and staff throughout the district. These services include but are not limited to the following: conduct assessments; develop goals and intervention plans; collaborate with school teams, PE teachers and other service providers; attend and present findings at Individual Education Program (IEP) meetings; provide consultative services to PE teachers; distribute and monitor adapted PE equipment; comply with documentation requirements; and provide in-service training to PE teachers and other school staff.

Education and Experience:

Minimum
  • Valid NC license in physical education; preferred Masters in physical education or adapted physical education
  • Two (2) years of experience in the field of adapted physical education
  • Experience teaching swimming and/or adapted aquatics, with Water Safety Instructor or equivalent national certification required (or willing to obtain). Adapted Aquatic Instructor Certification preferred
  • Proficient with conducting adapted PE evaluations, developing goals and providing adapted PE services and PE modifications in a variety of educational settings from separate setting to general education setting
  • Proficient with training PE teachers on implementing adapted PE strategies and modifications
