Meriwether Schools provide a full-time instructional coach and a full-time counselor in every school. Most classrooms have interactive/SMART boards, access to computer labs and chrome books that can be checked out for classroom use. Qualifications

The Superintendent of Schools serves as the chief executive officer of the school system and is responsible to the Board of Education for ensuring compliance with all board policies, Georgia Board of Education rules and regulations, and state and federal laws. Candidates will be evaluated on their professional merits, with emphasis on the following criteria:

Required:

  • Possession of a specialist degree (Ed.S.) and holds or is eligible for a Georgia Leadership Certificate at the L-6 level. Certificate number or letter of eligibility from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, as verification of such eligibility, must be provided.   • Of good moral character; not convicted of any crime involving moral turpitude, as required by GA law; possession of high standards of ethical and moral conduct and a demonstrated ability to promote the success of all students by adhering to ethical principles and professional norms.
  • A documented history of successful experience achieved through a combination of professional expertise achieved through service in roles of increased responsibility over time.
  • The ability to set a widely shared vision, target a mission for learning and foster a positive climate of mutual trust and respect among faculty, staff and administrators.
  • Possesses evidence of support for a district’s mission by identifying, articulating and planning to meet the needs of all students, staff and other stakeholders.
  • Promotes the success and well-being of every student by ensuring the development of robust and meaningful curriculum and assessment processes.
  • A demonstrated ability to develop collaborative partnerships with the greater community to support the learning priorities of the district.
  • A willingness to reside in Meriwether County.

     Preferred:

  • Possession of a doctorate.
  • Experience in Georgia and/or the southeast region.
  • Evidence of a global understanding of the management of facilities, transportation, nutrition, technology, Human Resources and budgeting facets of district operations.
  • A demonstrated knowledge of current educational programs and best practices.
  • Evidence of the ability to provide leadership for the Board of Education to aid their understanding of the “team governance model” and the separation of authority of the board and superintendent.
  • Evidence of a high level of effectiveness in the following personal qualities: Conflict Management, Values, Fit for the position/community, Customer Focus, Awareness of Future/Global/Future Perspective, Judgment.

The Board of Education

The Meriwether County Board of Education consists of five members:

  • Leon Coverson, Chair 20 years of service on the Board
  • Bradley Smith, Vice Chair2 years of service on the Board
  • Willie A. Hinton, Jr. – 4.5 years of service on the Board
  • Kay King4 years of service on the Board
  • Dr. Bob Patterson first year of service on the Board

The Community

Meriwether County is located in west-central Georgia, about sixty miles south of Atlanta and is considered to be part of Metro Atlanta. The county seat is Greenville, home of the Meriwether County Courthouse. The county was formed on December 14, 1827, as the 73rd county in Georgia. It was named for David Meriwether, a general in the American Revolutionary War and member of Congress from Georgia. Meriwether encompasses seven communities, including Warm Springs. The community is proud to have shared its beautiful land and soothing springs with President Franklin Roosevelt. He made Warm Springs famous, staying at his “Little White House.” Fishing, hiking, camping and more are available for the outdoor enthusiast. The community has a business-friendly attitude and is centrally located between Atlanta, Macon, and Columbus.
