TITLE: ESOL Teacher (English to Speakers of other Languages)


QUALIFICATIONS: Must meet the certification requirements of the State of Delaware Department of Education.

REPORTS TO: School Principal (or Assistant)

JOB GOAL: To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Coordinate a plan of instruction for all ESOL children.
  2. Teach a combined elementary level ESOL class where appropriate.
  3. Provide itinerant services for ESOL students.
  4. Help to identify students that would benefit from ESOL instruction.
  5. Review all DSTP testing data on ESOL students to formulate educational strategies and recommendations.
  6. Complete statewide ESOL database.
  7. Monitor progress of all ESOL students.
  8. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at times designated.
  9. Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  10. Creates a classroom environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
  11. Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor or principal.
  12. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  13. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, established clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
  14. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  15. Strives to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  16. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  17. Diagnoses the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  18. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  19. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by the law, district policy, and administrative director.
  20. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  21. Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  22. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluates their job performance.
  23. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  24. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  25. Other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor that pertain to the position of ESOL Teacher.


Start Date: August 20, 2018

Reports To: School Principal (or Assistant)

Salary Range: From/To: Ten month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
