QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Eligible for State of Delaware Certification as a Principal
  • Master's degreeMinimum of 5 years of teaching experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of administrative experience

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

The Principal is responsible for the operation of the instructional program and for providing educational leadership for the staff, students and the community that focuses on rapid and increased student achievement, support for the whole child, building a positive climate for learning, leveraging research and data-driven initiatives, effectively engaging families and communities, and building a high performing faculty and leadership team to achieve the school's vision, goals, and aspirations.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :

NOTE: A complete listing of the activities of the school principal is impossible because of the many facets of the job and the variations in needs from school-to-school. Some of the activities include:
  • Provide instructional leadership to successfully implement the District and school educational objectives.
  • Develop positive school and community relations, which include effective oral and written communications to all stakeholder groups.
  • Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance.
  • Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for developing and maintaining a positive school climate
  • Align school resources and prioritize activities to achieve maximum results based on vision and goals.
  • Provide leadership which will ensure continuous improvement in measurable student performance and achievement.
  • Provide leadership and instructional coaching of staff in the area of student data analysis and designing and implementing interventions for low-performing students.
  • Supervise and monitor instructional practices and student achievement data.
  • Supervise and monitor the accurate and timely completion of data collection and reporting requirements.
  • Work with the District to implement training and professional development opportunities for instructional staff.
  • Work with diverse groups of students, staff and community.
  • Conduct staff meetings that involve staff in the discussion of instructional programs that focus on student achievements, policy changes, potential problems, and resolution of existing problems.
  • Effectively utilize support personnel, both school and area based, in the delivery of services to students and teachers.Communicate with local civic and service organizations to interpret and explain school policies, programs and needs, whenever possible.
  • Select professional and supporting services staff for the school.
  • Observe and evaluate school personnel as prescribed by the Department of Education.
  • Enforce a school discipline plan based on the Board-adopted Student Manual (Responsibilities, Expectations, Rights and Resources)
