Qualifications:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree, plus three years of progressively more responsible experience in building construction inspection, some of which shall have involved supervision and evaluation of inspection activities and performing final inspections. Thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, and procedures used in the construction or modification of buildings, schools, and related structures; good knowledge of trades involved in building construction projects; good knowledge of mechanical drawings, general construction surveying, and cost estimating; ability to learn the content of and interpret blueprints, plans, specifications, applicable building codes, and regulations, and recognize deviations from such requirements; ability to supervise and evaluate the work of journey-level construction inspectors; sufficient visual acuity to detect faults (poor construction, improper materials, etc.) at times in poorly lit areas; ability to be firm and tactful in dealing with contractors, architects, construction workers, and the general public; ability to maintain accurate records and to prepare complete and concise written reports; and sufficient dexterity and mobility to supervise inspection tasks on structures of varying designs and heights at varying construction stages, including stages when sidewalks, ramps, and stairs have not been installed. Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
