    Position Specification
    Title: Technology Education Teacher

    Position Purpose
    To provide an instructional program that will develop students' skills and competence in technology and allow them to use materials, knowledge and processes to solve problems and extend human capability.

    Essential Responsibilities
    • Implements technology education curriculum consistent with GPS goals and objectives; develops technology units to be delivered in the classroom and technology lab.
    • Establishes and maintains appropriate classroom procedures and standards to ensure that students take proper care of instructional equipment and materials.
    • Instructs students in the proper and safe use, care and storage of tools, machines and equipment.
    • Provides inquiry based teaching which requires students to go beyond data and information accumulation and learn to acquire and apply knowledge and skills.
    • Creates engaging lessons that allow students to apply technology, math and engineering to real world situations.
    • Creates an academic environment where students can demonstrate self-discipline, self-worth, positive attitude, and integrity in work settings.
    • Differentiates between science and technology. While science is concerned with observing and acquiring knowledge, technology is more concerned with using knowledge to manipulate the natural world.
    • Creates rubrics for students to use to evaluate their own work.
    • Establishes and maintains communication with parents to keep them informed about student progress and classroom activities.
    • Teaches skill and knowledge in mechanics, drafting, electricity, electronics, metalwork, graphic arts, woodworking, or related fields.
    • Promotes a classroom environment that is conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
    • Designs learning activities to demonstrate the application of technical skills to everyday existence; guides students in the selection of projects or experiments.
    • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
    • Coordinates with the Chief Information Officer, Director of Educational Technology, staff members, and others for the purpose of maximizing the uses and effectiveness of technology in student learning activities.
    • Reviews and implements modifications, accommodations, and intervention plans for all students both general and special education.
    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
    • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
    • Knowledge of the GPS technology education curriculum and the Connecticut Frameworks for Technology Education.
    • Provides engaging and thought-provoking lab experiences for all students.
    • Demonstrates an ability to formulate research hypotheses and leverage the appropriate productivity, programming, and media tools to communicate results.
    • Knowledge of a wide range of industrial and technology-related subject areas, as well as best practices in incorporating technology into student learning activities.
    • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
    • Ability to engage students in real technological practices: observing, predicting, classifying, designing, constructing, investigating and drawing conclusions.
    • Ability to provide students with opportunities to develop critical thinking skills.

    Certification/License
    • CT State Certification in Technology Education, PK-12 (047)

    Education
    • Bachelor's from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
    • Master's Degree preferred.
