    Qualifications: *Current Kansas Teaching Certificate with endorsement appropriate to the assignment on file in the Devin Center
    *Health certificate on file in Devin Center

    District Library Media Coordinator

    Supervises: Library Clerk(s)

    BASIC FUNCTION/PURPOSE:
    Candidates need to show how they would empower our students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers and ethical users of information. Candidates need a solid understanding of current electronic technologies and applications. The candidate will teach integrated lessons using content area standards while incorporating technology and literacy. The candidate must foster a love of learning through positive interaction and engagement of student learning and literacy while working collaboratively with colleagues and staff.

    The employee performing the duties of this position is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, hear, bend, stoop, and reach. The employee may be occasionally required to manually lift, move, or carry up to 50 pounds. The employee is required to interact with staff and meet the demands of several different people. The employee is responsible for the work output of others. The employee occasionally works extended hours. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    The Elementary Media Specialist is responsible for the successful integration of 21st century literacy skills across the curriculum by:

    Teaching
    • joining with teachers and others to plan and implement meaningful experiences that will promote a love of reading and lifelong learning
    • model the effective and enthusiastic use of books, videos, multimedia, and other creative expressions of information as sources of pleasure and information.
    • work collaboratively and individually to design, develop, and implement programs that encourage reading for enjoyment and for information.
    • co-planning, co-teaching, co-assessing units of inquiry which authentically embed 21st century literacy skills
    • assist in differentiation for highly able or struggling students through the use of technology, including independently teaching smaller groups of students when needed
    • ensuring 21st century literacy - enduring understandings and guiding questions are authentically embedded into curriculum for all content areas
    • closely collaborating with school personnel and students to ensure seamless transition and use of both traditional and digital literacy tools, and assist students and staff while using Web 2.0 technologies in the classroom or media center
    Leadership and Curriculum Development
    • to develop, define, promote and share the vision and framework of 21st century learning
    • promote ethical use of technology, and develop authentic projects that actively work towards developing digital citizenship among staff and students
    • collaboratively work with administration, curriculum and technology coordinators, other district Media Specialists, and teachers to further develop embedded 21st century literacy programs
    • evaluates, selects and orders appropriate library media materials and equipment for the facility; maintains inventory and accountability of all resources
    Professional Development
    • provide regular professional development opportunities to help build teacher's understanding around 21st century literacy
    • work with staff to develop and promote use of 21st century tools for efficiency and productivity in their jobs, and in their respective curriculum
    • assist staff and students with implementation of the School Improvement Plan(s)
    Communication and Collaboration
    • promoting and sharing successful 21st century literacy projects with wider school community, creating a global and a collaborative approach for the learner
    • support teaching and learning experiences in a central place for all faculty and students to access; the library or learning commons as the "hub" for student learning
    • develops a true 21st century approach to learning and teaching by working in partnership with:
      • the District Technology and District Media Coordinator to coordinate hardware, software, and school-wide infrastructure so that focus can be on pedagogical support
      • Teachers and other Media Specialists to coordinate and support traditional literacy
    Organizational Management
    • Administers the media center budget and keeps accurate budgetary and inventory records
    • Coordinates district media services in the school
    • Supervises and evaluates the clerical support staff in the media center
    • Performs related work as required or as assigned by the supervising administrator or his/her designee
    Term of Employment: Teacher Contract + 10 days

    Salary Range: Determined by placement on teacher salary schedule.

    Evaluation Frequency: Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with state regulations and the terms established in the negotiated agreement.
