Lake Forest Elementary School 67 is seeking two Middle School Assistant Principals at Deer Path Middle School.

Position Summary :

The assistant principal is a creative, dynamic and thoughtful leader who works to fulfill the mission and vision of Lake Forest School District 67. The assistant principal will be responsible for facilitating an inclusive model for student services that is based upon best practices, the district's philosophy and the needs of all students. In partnership with the leadership team, the assistant principal will be responsible for insuring a safe, nurturing and developmentally appropriate student-centered climate and culture. The assistant principal will collaborate with district level and building level staff to design and implement professional learning opportunities that support student agency; academically, socially and emotionally and meet the individual needs of staff members. The assistant principal will put the needs of students at the center of the decision making process and will model this approach for staff.

The assistant principal is a strategic thinker and a proactive leader who models strong communication, organization and interpersonal skills, as well as and an unwavering commitment and energy to sustain momentum in the district's journey towards innovative teaching and learning practices. The assistant principal will serve as a member of the Instructional Leadership Team to implement the District's strategic plan and Deer Path Middle School's Improvement Plan.

The assistant principal will work in partnership with the middle school principal and all staff members. The assistant principal also will work with the district-level leadership team; including, the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent of Growth, Talent and Human Relations, Chief Technology Officer, Executive Director of Student Services, Coordinator of Student Services, Director of Innovation and the Director of Teaching and Learning.

Essential Functions :

LEADERSHIP AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the establishment of goals and objectives for the schoolSupervise specific school departments and teams as assignedBuild an environment of trust through communication and transparency about decisions and how they are madeProvide high-level, purposeful, and engaging professional learning for teachers and staff to meet teaching and learning goals.Assist in the general administration of the schoolAssist in planning budgetary resources for the programsAssist in coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other school support services; help conduct safety inspections and safety drill practice activitiesUse systems data to lead the improvement of the school to positively impact students and staffMonitor test results and provide assistance to improve student performanceModel effective instructional strategiesAssist in establishing long term and short term goals for implementation plans and district growthAssist in implementing key learning principles that are essential to innovative learning environmentsPlan and allocate resources to effectively staff and accomplish the work to meet departmental productivity and quality goalsProvide leadership in establishing and implementing educational goals and objectives for the school and in evaluating the accomplishment of these goals and objectivesCoordinate and evaluate the curriculum in accordance with the district curriculum policyAssist in the direction, supervision, and evaluation of the building instructional programCoordinate and facilitate the development of the building master schedule: courses, sections, and teacher schedules as assignedChair and / or co-­chair committees as requested by the principalEnsure and oversee quality and compliance of IEP and Special Education legal requirementsAssist in creating and ensuring all master scheduling for special education students and staff which meets IEP requirements and provide the director with all projection dataBe an active participant, and facilitate when necessary, in all Student Support Team meetingsAttend and participate or delegate district participation in 8th grade IEP meetings Lake Forest High SchoolEffectively communicate with all parents regarding the needs of all students, and comply with communication protocols for special education student needs

SCHOOL/ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE AND IMPROVEMENT
  • Promote a positive, caring climate for learningCommunicate effectively and in a timely manner with students, staff and parentsAssist the principal in the transformation of the school culture into a results-oriented collaborative learning communityAssist with the development and implementation of the School Improvement Plan as requested by the principalPromote the health, safety, and welfare of each student

STAFF PERSONNEL
  • Assist in the determination of staff needsAssist in working with individual staff needsEvaluate personnel and assist in the determination of goals to improve performancePrepare formal evaluations as directed by Board policy and administrative regulationsCoordinate teacher, mentorship inservicesAssist in the process of interviewing, evaluating, and selecting new staff membersAssist the principal in the supervision and evaluation of classroom instructionComplete and evaluate all paraprofessionals building wideComplete and implement the paraprofessional schedules building wide

PUPIL PERSONNEL
  • Ensure that students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periodsFacilitate a student behavior management system based upon the philosophy of the districtFacilitate meetings regarding student and school challenges and opportunities with parents, students, and staffParticipate in the creation of extra and co-curricular activities in the schoolSupervise extra and co-curricular activities in the schoolAssist in the reporting and monitoring of student attendance to ensure the District is in compliance with state and federal laws, rules and regulations, and Board Policy

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Qualifications and Requirements :
  • Current Professional Educator License (PEL) with a General Administrative or Principal Endorsement requiredMaster Degree in School Administration or related fieldTeacher Evaluator Designations (preferred, but may be obtained)Demonstrates excellence in creating and supporting dynamic and meaningful experiences for studentsExperience planning and organizing large student eventsStrong communication, collaboration and organizational skillsA minimum of five years of successful teaching experience at the primary, intermediate or junior high level.Strong background in inquiry-based instruction, differentiation, coaching, and curriculum development requiredStrong background in the creation and implementation of engaging classroom environments requiredStrong background in social-emotional learning competencies and school culture requiredDemonstrated background in the high-level use and implementation of school and classroom technologies requiredManagement experience in a team-oriented workplace preferredIn-depth knowledge of middle school curriculum, instruction and assessmentAbility to collaboratively manage change processesAbility to design and manage a data collection planAbility to create a positive workplace culture and climate that is focused on the district's mission and visionAbility to effectively and consistently communicate with all stakeholders
