Position Description :

Las Américas ASPIRA Academy is looking for a highly motivated teacher to work with our population of English Learners. The ideal candidate has experience in and knowledge of recent research in the field of second language acquisition and best practices in EL education; exhibits strong organizational and communication skills (verbal and writing) and sensitivity to the stages of student development.

Responsibilities :
  • Deliver high quality instruction in small group settings in both push-in and pull-out models to identified and unidentified students alike (grades K-8).
  • Administer required language proficiency and academic achievement tests for determining placement for students in grades K-8, along with ongoing monitoring of student progress.
  • Maintain State of Delaware database of EL and EL-eligible students.
  • Assist in developing language acquisition support plans (EL plans) for all EL students and work with classroom teachers to implement plans.
  • Work with classroom teachers to support differentiated instruction.
  • Assist in developing appropriate curriculum to help EL students acquire the English language.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and teaching strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students, including whole group (co-teaching)/ small-group or individual learning.
  • Assist in compiling and maintaining a profile summary (record of achievement and progress) for each student.
  • Assist in gathering and reporting data for reporting requirements and other required reports (to the State, Charter School Board, Dept. of Education, census, grant applications, annual report, etc.).
  • Be accountable for students' academic growth and achievement.
  • Contribute to a positive, achievement-oriented learning environment.
  • Reflect on successes and areas of growth as a teacher, seek to improve performance, and respond to feedback.
  • Participate in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding their children's academic success.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
