JOB TITLE : Resource Teacher, Science- Secondary - Dundalk High School

REPORTS TO : Coordinator, Office of Science

DEFINITION : Provides assistance in the development and implementation of the secondary Next Generation Science Standards curriculum and related instructional programs. Provides instructional and Next Generation Science Standards support for department chairs, teachers, and administrators. Performs other duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES :
Assists the Office of Science in developing, implementing, and evaluating the secondary science curriculum and other curriculum development initiatives.

Assists schools in the implementation of Next Generation Science Standards curriculum.

Assists in training teachers in emerging technologies and BCPS ONE.

Assists in the preparation and submittal of reports and position statements to schools and the Maryland State Department of Education.

Develops BCPS summative assessments to maintain alignment with the Next Generation Science Standards.

Develops and implements professional learning for department chairs, teachers, and administrators.

Represents BCPS on Content Committees with MSDE.

Provides schools with current information on safety, hazardous and/or carcinogenic chemicals.

Serves as a resource for material concerns to content leaders, department chairpersons, and principals.

Coordinates the repair of science equipment. Coordinates bulk distribution of scientific equipment and other materials.

Provides leadership for staff development of the Science Instructional Assistants.

Assists schools in renovations of science laboratories.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Education, Training and Experience :
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree; plus five years of successful science teaching experience, which included two years as a content leader or department chair, and experience in the development of a secondary science curriculum. Master's degree preferred.

Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Professional Certificate with a science endorsement is required. A Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Knowledge of science education. Technology competency. Knowledge of and skill in the use of database, internet, spreadsheet, word processing, and related applications. Knowledge of and skill in data analysis.
Demonstration of strong and effective human relations and communication skills

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :
The work of this class is generally sedentary and performed in an office environment. Work includes the operation of office equipment, including personal computers, and occasional limited physical activities.

Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (State of Maryland, Senate Bill 315, effective October 1, 1986) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $79.75. An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
  • If you have military experience you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.
  • Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to contract signing.
  • Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
  • All newly hired personnel must attend a Badges and Benefits session.
  • Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.
