Position Summary
Mastery seeks an exceptional leader to serve as our network's Director of Teacher Leadership. The Director of Teacher Leadership will define the network's teacher leadership strategy in tight alignment with Mastery's mission and goals. The Director of Teacher Leadership will see this strategy through to executional excellence by incorporating feedback from stakeholders across the network on strategy development and ongoing implementation, developing robust systems to drive the network's approach to teacher leadership and ensuring there is a strong through line between the central office and schools on translating the vision to high-quality day-to-day execution. This will be a new position that reports to the Senior Director, Coaching and Professional Development on the central office's Academic team and will collaborate closely with the Chief Academic Officer and Chief Talent Officer to ensure strong alignment between talent and academics on the network's teacher leadership work.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead a comprehensive strategic design process to define a network-wide vision and strategy for teacher leadership
Engage with central office leadership, school leaders and teachers to gather and incorporate feedback to ensure that the teacher leadership strategy aligns with the network's vision and goals
Identify a strong value proposition for teacher leadership that attracts top candidates, clearly articulates our theory of action, magnifies the impact of our best teachers and improves retention for our top-performing teacher leaders
Catalog all current teacher leadership initiatives across the network (including but not limited to school-based teacher leaders, collaborative planning content area leads, new teacher coordinators and mentor teachers) and determine how to best align and drive key initiatives through the network-wide vision and strategy for this work
Provide coaching and professional development to teacher leaders to develop skills that position them to grow their impact over time
Serve as a primary point of contact for teacher leaders across the network to provide feedback on overcoming role-specific challenges and connect them with resources to improve their work
Serve as a key academic team leader to ensure this teacher leadership work aligns with and supports our broader vision for academics
Collaborate closely with Academic team Directors to ensure alignment with instructional best practices across content areas
Explore the potential for teacher leadership to strengthen school-based structures and central office support for content knowledge internalization and intellectual preparation for lessons
Determine the financial and staffing feasibility of different models for teacher leadership, including providing teacher leaders partial release time to take on additional responsibilities or paying stipends to teacher leaders to expand the scope of their work
Collaborate with the central office talent team and schools to identify and hire teacher leaders
Research and network with school districts, charter networks, non-profit organizations and other leaders in the teacher leadership space across the country to identify best practices and determine how we can best adapt them to meet our network's needs
Develop goals to drive the teacher leadership work, progress monitoring systems and a yearround research agenda to assess the impact of this work and to ensure we make data-driven decisions on how this work should evolve over time to reach strong outcomes
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree
A minimum of three years of teaching experience in an urban school with a demonstrated track record of achieving strong results with students
A minimum of one year of experience serving as a teacher leader or managing a teacher leadership initiative for a school district, charter school network or non-profit organization
Previous experience providing coaching and feedback to teachers with evidence of improving staff effectiveness
Exceptional interpersonal relationship-building and stakeholder management skills
Ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse range of central office and school-based staff
