Position Summary:

The Superintendent of the Laboratory Schools and Assistant Dean for the College of Education is a senior administrative position within the College of Education at Illinois State University. The successful candidate will convene and coordinate the work of the Laboratory School administrative team and serve on the administrative council for the College of Education. He/She will provide instructional leadership for the Laboratory Schools, conduct research and evaluation, monitor fiscal resources, review personnel needs, monitor compliance with state requirements, and partner with area school districts to provide regional special education programming. Additionally, the successful candidate will articulate the schools' programs, issues, and related matters to appropriate administrators at Illinois State University and serve as a liaison to other agencies and individuals outside the university. In practice, he/she will serve as the chief executive officer, chief financial officer, and chief program officer for an organization operating within the context of a larger organization. 

In addition to these identified responsibilities, the successful candidate will partner and collaborate with local school districts, including District 87 and Unit 5 for potential opportunities in instruction, working with teacher candidates, policy, professional development of teachers, and other aspects. The successful candidate will work with the College of Education on recruiting high school students. In addition, he/she will seek out and apply for grants that advocate for innovative programming and new initiatives with the K-12 laboratory schools and principals. The successful applicant will also present at the regional and national level to promote the outcomes of the laboratory school innovations. The Superintendent and Assistant Dean will identify schools similar to the lab schools within Illinois and across the nation, and seek potential partnerships with these institutions. He/she may also seek out and partner with schools in other countries who may be interested in collaborative professional development for teachers and administrators as well as learning opportunities for students in the laboratory schools.  

Required Qualifications:

1. Completion of a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in education or related area. 
2. Experience in curriculum development, research, and/or teacher education. 
3. Must have or be eligible for Illinois Superintendent Licensure
4. Minimum five years teaching experience in elementary and/or secondary levels. 
5. Minimum five years administrative experience at the principal and/or superintendent levels. 
6. Evidence of well-developed communication skills. 
7. If this position is Security Sensitive or if you are subject to a criminal background investigation based on University policy, employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation. You may not begin work until the criminal background investigation results have been received and cleared by Human Resources.  

Desired Qualifications:

1. Demonstrated ability to professionally communicate with colleagues. 
2. Evidence of scholarship. 
3. Familiarity with fundraising. 
4. Ability to relate to diverse populations in the schools and academic departments across the university. 
5. Demonstrated experience in pedagogical practices related to diverse populations 
6. Knowledge of lab school structure.
