PURPOSE: This position provides leadership and vision for developing and sustaining technology services that are in alignment with District goals, including supporting curriculum and instruction, and providing staff development. The director of technology services reports to the assistant superintendent.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises and administers the District's technology services to provide effective and efficient technology services for all district programs.

Oversees the technological infrastructure necessary to support staff in improving instructional outcomes, teacher effectiveness, administrative leadership, and District communication with internal and external audiences.

Provides leadership and vision for long-range plans to meet the present and future technological needs of the District.

Directs the design and administration of operating systems and servers (e.g. email systems, business management systems, auto dialers, voice and video systems, devise assignments mass storage systems, back-up systems disaster recovery, security, antivirus, spyware) and ensures availability of services to all authorized users.

Coordinates hardware, software, and licensing purchases consistent with the District's business and instructional goals.

Maintains knowledge of and communicates current research findings and forecasts related to the effective use of technology in the school's educational program.

Serves as the primary leader for the district's 1:1 technology device initiative, developing rollout strategies, planning and conducting teacher training, and communicating with and presenting to student and parents.

In collaboration with the Teaching and Learning Department administrators, oversees professional development of staff on the integration of technology into the curriculum. Will also at times provide direct professional development (e.g. new employee orientations, technology classes, assessment software, and instructional tools).

Works with the Finance and Operations Director, the Assistant Superintendent, and Teaching and Learning Department administrators to align program needs and outcomes with planned expenditures for technology, in order to promote the most cost-effective use of district resources.

Plans, develops, and implements the Technology Department budget, and assists in developing the technology component of proposed bonds.

Collaborates with leadership team members and teachers on the career learning standards and coordinates the technology needs to continuously improve all aspects of the learning environment.

Leads District Technology Committee, which includes administrators, teachers, and community members, to support and move the District's vision and goals forward.

Partners with members of the community to articulate mission values and connections between ethics and technology.

In collaboration with other Directors, develops policies and procedures around the use of technology and software to ensure compliance with federal and state laws.

Strengthens the district relationship with neighboring colleges, universities and agencies in ways that support and enhances the district's technology needs.

Support the emergency responder overseeing the district's website and emergency notifications.

Serves as liaison with local agencies providing software applications (i.e. Student Information System at Linn Benton Lincoln Education Service District).

Manages technology contracts for the district.

Directs and supervises the daily operations and personnel of the Technology Services Department, including analyzing workflow, establishing priorities and timelines, developing and monitoring standards, evaluating performance, and ensuring optimal utilization of staff to provide a high level of customer service, with a focus on being innovative and responsive to user needs.

Focus on ensuring that network and other technology resources are used safely and responsibly, and available to staff in a manner that supports the district's goals while ensuring security and maximum performance.

Serves on district and community boards and committees.

Remains current in trends and best practices related to technology education and management.

Oversees the maintenance, storage and retrieval of data and information in a timely, accurate and efficient manner.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Education Technology or related field required.

Five years of successful experience in an administrative position working with networked and electronic data systems, preferably in an educational setting.

Teaching experience preferred.

Experience working with a diverse groups.

Experience with a variety of software applications being used in the district as well as emerging applications.

General knowledge of networking, data center design, storage, custom application development, and other emerging technologies.

Knowledge of technologies and software being used in the classrooms, and the ability to apply the knowledge to staff development planning, troubleshooting and the allocation of staff resources.

Familiarity with a variety of instructional, assessment and behavior management strategies that reflect current research on best practices.

Familiarity with state standards and curriculum frameworks.

Knowledge of state and federal laws governing education, student, and staff rights.

Evidence of high-level interpersonal skills that enable the candidate to work effectively with diverse groups of people.

Demonstrated ability to work with all elements of the district community to resolve conflicts and build consensus for action and to solve problems.

Excellent communication (listening, writing, speaking) skills.

Ability to view the broad picture of all schools, the district and the community and the interrelationship of all as a system.

Ability to think creatively and support innovation.

Ability to exhibit professionalism and effective human relations.

Supervision skills, including team-building, coaching, mentoring, and evaluating staff and student workers.

Ability to facilitate meetings and collaboration efforts with staff and community.

Ability to collect, record, store, retrieve, assimilate organize, and utilize information and records electronically and by using traditional methods.

Excellent organizational skills combined with flexibility for managing multiple tasks and projects.

Ability to travel among district facilities as needed, and, if driving, the ability to meet district driving standards.

Standard Red Cross First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within two months of hire, may be required.
