TITLE: CHIEF ACADEMIC OFFICER

 

STATUS/ FLSA: Full-time / Exempt PAY SCHEDULE/GROUP: DISTRICT LEVEL SUPERVISOR:

 

Superintendent TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 240 Days SALARY: Salary determined by schedule set by the Board. ($104,725 – $160,000)

 

EVALUATION: Evaluated annually by the Superintendent.

 

The purpose of this classification is to assist the Superintendent oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of the district's instructional program for Pre-K through Grade 12 and adult education. This also includes being responsible for assisting in the supervision of the instructional functions and activities of principals, directors and coordinators.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Supports the mission, vision and strategic goals of Anderson School District Five.
  • Assists the Superintendent in communicating the district's instructional program to the Board of Trustees, district staff and general public; provides a comprehensive profile of the district's educational needs for review by staff, Superintendent and Board of Trustees.
  • Keeps abreast of developments in curriculum and instruction.
  • Provides continuous curriculum development and improvements and works with staff to develop instructional goals for all levels and curriculum areas.
  • Coordinates and supervises the instructional programs in collaboration with teachers, principals, and district office personnel.
  • Assists with the selection and assignment of instructional personnel including directors, coordinators, principals and assistant principals.
  • Directs the planning, staffing, implementation and supervision of summer school programs.
  • Directs the planning, staffing, implementation and supervision of charter school programs and adult education programs.
  • Is knowledgeable of financial procedures, budget processes and management.
  • Works with members in the office of instruction and school leaders to assist with the district's budget in terms of staffing and instructional needs including district, state, and federal programs. Monitors budget expenditures in the instructional division. Reviews and approves purchase requests for the division. Oversees the development, implementation and administration of instructional technologies. Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints regarding issues, programs, policies and procedures in instructional areas.
  • Assists in the development of educational specifications for remodeling projects or new construction.
  • Works with the Office of Instruction, administrators and teachers in planning and implementing professional development which allows teachers and administrators to gain expertise in meeting the needs of students.
  • Participates in professional development.
  • Provides supervision of coordinators and directors in the instructional division.
  • Revises, interprets and implements policies, regulations and directives of the state, the federal government and the local board.
  • Is knowledgeable of special education laws and procedures.
  • Provides new principals with orientation regarding the district’s instructional programs and support systems.
  • Assists the Superintendent with evaluating the principals.
  • Oversees the selection, procurement and distribution of textbooks, library books, media resources, software and equipment.
  • Oversees the selection, procurement and distribution of instructional materials, media resources, software and equipment.
  • Stays abreast of policies, regulations, and state and federal laws regarding instruction and curriculum requirements.
  • Serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team to ensure effective coordination and support of all programs.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Attends state instructional meetings and keeps district and school administrators abreast of changes, proposed regulations, new guidelines, etc.
  • Assists with state and regional accreditation processes.
  • Performs other duties as directed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated leadership ability in working with students, teachers, administrators and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use technology to include computers, Smart Boards and supporting software.
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Such alternative qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

EDUCATION

  • Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction Preferred
  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree and advanced graduate work in curriculum, instruction, and supervision.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of five years of experience in Educational Administration and Teaching

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS

 

  • REQUIRED: Valid South Carolina Teaching Certificate. South Carolina Certification as an Elementary or Secondary Principal.
  • PREFERRED: Trained as Evaluator in South Carolina Teaching Standards 4.0 Rubric. Trained as PADEPP Evaluator (Program for Assisting, Developing and Evaluating Principal Performance).
