JOB SUMMARY : The Physical Therapy Teacher will be responsible for instruction and supervision of students in the Health Sciences Academy at Crispus Attucks High School. This includes training and preparing students in the field of health care specifically as it relates to physical therapy, and encouraging successful achievement of certifications, dual credit, and professional skills .

QUALIFICATIONS : The ideal candidate will possess four to five years of physical therapy experience within the healthcare industry. Teaching experience in a high school or technical school setting is preferred.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS : Must be eligible through the Indiana Department of Education for a CTE: Health Occupations 5-12, or Workplace Specialist: Physical Therapy 9-12 licensure. If pursuing the Workplace Specialist Licensure, candidate must have verifiable occupational experience in a related field meeting
  • 6,000 hours (3 years experience) in the last five years OR
  • 4,000 hours in the past 10 years with one of the following:
    • Occupational licensure
    • Completion of an accredited 2-year or higher degree in the specific certification area
    • Completion of an apprenticeship or internship program

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty effectively:
  • Provide detailed and regular feedback to students and parents on student achievement, attendance and discipline concerns.
  • Maintain student files, training records, and all reports concerning student certifications.
  • Plan and deliver pathway curriculum in a highly engaging classroom and laboratory.
  • Maintain and enter all required data for student grades, attendance, and discipline.
  • Create and maintain a positive learning environment for students.
  • Organize and serve on the Physical Therapy Advisory Board.
  • Prepare lesson plans and accompanying resources required to meet the objectives of the IDOE pathway standards.
  • Maintain and inventory all service tools, equipment and technology.
  • Sponsor or Co-Sponsor a Physical Therapy focused club .
  • Work cooperatively with other CTE pathway instructors, specialists, and administrators.
  • Follow building and district rules and procedures when performing assigned responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate positive interpersonal relationships by practicing good human relations with students, staff, parents, and the community partners.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal or Career Academy Coordinator.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No direct supervisory responsibilities for adults, but is expected to carry out supervisory responsibilities related to monitoring student behavior and activities both in and out of classroom during the assigned working day and on learning excursions.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
