Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the general supervision of the building Principal and Assistant Principal, the 5th grade long-term substitute mathematics teacher:
  • Teaches mathematics by using the district curriculum and other appropriate learning materials and activities, reflecting a deep understanding of state frameworks and use of the workshop model.
  • Promotes the learning and growth of all students by providing high-quality and coherent instruction, designing and administering authentic and meaningful student assessments, analyzing students performance and growth data, using this data to improve instruction, providing students with constructive feedback on an ongoing basis.
  • Promotes the learning and growth of all students through instructional practices that establish high expectations, crate a safe and effective classroom environment, and demonstrate cultural proficiency.
  • Promotes the learning and growth of all students through effective partnerships with families and caregivers.
  • Collaborates effectively with specialists, instructional coaches, administrators and parents to foster positive social, emotional and academic development.
  • Collaborates effectively with teaching colleagues, including those with expertise in modifying instruction for English language learners and students with disabilities, to identify strategies that promote the success of all students in the classroom.
  • Actively pursues professional development and learning opportunities to improve quality of practice and expertise.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by the principal and/or assistant principal.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree (Required); Masters Degree preferred
  • Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure in Elementary Education (1-6) (Required); Additional certification/licensure in Elementary Mathematics preferred
  • Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement (Required)
  • Proficiency in Spanish preferred
  • Experience working in an urban elementary public school setting preferred;
  • Demonstrated ability to foster positive academic growth through the planning and delivery of high-quality instruction to students representing a diverse range of learning needs
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver standards-based math instruction that develops students' conceptual understanding of core math ideas through investigation and academic conversations
  • Demonstrated ability to design, administer and analyze a variety of informal and formal assessments to inform instructional next steps and create small groups for targeted instruction
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a classroom running small groups/centers in a positive way where kids are learning how to manage their own learning; Familiarity with the Responsive Classroom model preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a professional learning community
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively with families, community members and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the expectations of the Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States.
